Ok so it's been a long time coming between being shipped and returned and finally a short stop at the Leupold custom shop but my Baby's finally wearing the scope I have been waiting on .

Its a Leupold FX3 12power scope with a Silhouette target 1 moa dot on their CPC crosshair.
These come with an AO set to a minimum distance of 50 yards so the custom shop lowered it to 20 yards ( actually a little less) . It is bright , clear and tracks perfect. And it moves only 1/8 of an inch at 100yards so I can dial it in Super precisely.
It's been a while since I owned a dedicated target scope an forgot they sometimes have less range of movement in the adjustments so I put on a weaver adapter and Burris signature rings with +-20 offsets in the front . The adapter was necessary to avoid blocking the loading port . I'll post some groups soon as the wind gets down a little ..it's beyond gusty today here . I know there are guys who would have gone with more power or a smaller dot but this one suits me great !!!

Leupold is better . A fixed SWFA 12power right beside it is noticeable darker. But the SWFA has a much larger field of view for sure . They both are nice honestly but the Leupold is slight ly sharper and colors look better thru it . BUT the Leupold has a very small adjustment range on how far you can move the crosshair..SWFA will move a LOT MORE .
For 200 dollars less I would recommend the SWFA , but if you don't mind ordering from custom shop the Leupold is better glass

Looking at the spec at 100m it is only 3.2m wide vs 3m wide field of view.

I think you might have me sold on the Leupold. I like brighter, my 4-14x isn't as bright at 14x compared to 10x. I like that it is lighter and more compact, would mate with the Mutant Short well. My current scope is about the same size a the SWFA. Would have to go with the custom shop and put on a MIL dot. Think it is time for me to stop being cheap...

Looks a goody, Joe!

I've never met a Leupold scope WITHOUT great edge to edge clarity and solid build/mechanicals.

IMO - there is nothing vague with fixed power scopes - they are point and shoot - every time.

BTW, I notice you have your scope set up quite deep into the butt (rearwards) - anything you'd like to talk about ? :)

I now realize my British English doesn't translate too well over there !

Sorry about that.

With Springers one has to be careful, my Dianas (52 & 54) are both capable of giving a nasty cut on the eyebrow.

Both have 'little' Leupold M8 fixed power scopes mounted (both scopes are as old as the rifles so shiney blued), for the complete Period Look I used Hilver mounts which are also blued / shiney (very similar to your mounts, but shiney).

What's the deal with choosing fixed power scopes for an air gun? I understand the concept that you prefer to pay for better glass instead of features but... I have never used a scope that had a clear image at close range on 12x. Do fixed power scopes behave differently than variable power scopes at close range or are you giving up close range capability to get a better view at target distances?

by close range I am talking about spoting a squirrel digging up your lawn at 10-20 yard. I usually use my scopes on 4x for that kind of thing

The leupold ultralight is the one I had my eye on. I believe there is a version with AO too.

"JoeWayneRhea"The Leupold 3-9 efr is a badass
It is. I just wish they would include useful info in their listings like the distance it will focus down to. Researching their scopes gives me a headache every time as they never explain any of the differences between each model in a particular line and half the info is missing or annoying - e.g. Under A/O it will say "yes" instead of "10 yards to infinity" etc. it makes me give up trying every time - which is stupid because they have good products. I could call but I don't do that. I want the info to just be there on their site.

I also wish their custom shop didn't charge outrageous prices to change the reticle to a mil dot. It's $160 extra to get Mil Dot instead of duplex on a $369 or $399 scope.... It really isn't worth a 25% up charge (at least not to me).
