Benjamin My Benjamin 392 Steroid

The rifle is a sort of long story but I got it and three more at Academy some years back for $35 each. I gave one to my sister, life long jealous of my 140 ;), gave one to the neighbor boy and kept two. One I modded myself and this one went to home base for mods. It was probably among the last wooden stock 392 rifles made. I tested all four and of course kept the most accurate two though all were decent enough. Especially after removing the paint inside the barrel gently.

I have lost in space and time the chrono/target results and have no time for it today. But I just shot 720 fps on 8 pumps and 800 fps on 12 pumps with CPHP 14.3 pellets. Not too shabby. BSA 2X pistol scope forward mounted, Williams peeps, Hawkeye cheek riser, Mac 1 Steroid kit install and TruOil finish.

Did a little shooting with the JSB 18.3 Exact Heavy pellets through the Steroid this morning. I get an average with very little deviation of 645 fps for 16.9 fpe for 8 pumps. These made a loose ragged hole at 10 yards. They hit slightly lower and to the left of the CPHP by about 1/2 inch. I like them and they shoot very nice but I have so many Walmart CPHPs, possibly a lifetime supply, that I just cannot justify feeding my .22 air rifles anything but the CPHP. I will save the expensive ammo for my .25 M-Rods which just love JSB pellets, hole in hole, at 25 yards.

Took out two starlings also, at about 20 yards, solid hits. I had my squirrel lined up but I only have one squirrel and he does not bother me so I let him be :).

Did a little more testing this morning. Shot at 10 yards because that kept me in the shade. I ran 8 pumps and 5 shot groups. This off a bench with the Caldwell Stinger rest. With 2X BSA scope. Typical strings below.

(JSB Hades 15.89) Individual impact on and around the bullseye about 1.0 inches (Rabbit accurate)

Most power and acceptable accuracy goes to the CPHP. Best accuracy, slightly less power goes to the Gamo RedFire pellets. The JSB Hades were disappointing as my Urban loves them.

This is not the first time I have seen good results for accuracy for the Gamo RedFire pellets both online and in my meager selection. Hmmm.
