I get his frustration as this republic is founded on english, yet its demanded we cater to spanish speakers. Its absurd and its not bigotry nor racist to refer to that in a certain way. We do not know if the op was racist with it or not, but was likely calling the action they were doing as stupid. There is NO ROOM for bigotry in this melded society. This comment and your treatment of those different from yourself is, and must be called out as unacceptable.

My great great grandfather was kicked out of germany for marrying a peasant girl he loved. He came to the United states. He became an american and worked to integrate into that. He didnt ask nor expected to be catered to. They didnt speak german in public nor demanded it be done for them.
Gary Sinise's autobiography is powerful. One of the most powerful parts is where he talked about how his great grandfather came form italy through ellis island. The person processing him was having trouble pronouncing his sir name. He changed the family name on the spot to make it American as he was proud to become an american and integrate into that.
Sadly thats no longer the case as they wave foreign flags and often dont seek to integrate, especially with language.
Much like this forum. Why do people post in other languages when it was created in english? Its absurd. If I went to a forum created in french I would expect to speak french there. When browsing on a phone its difficult to impossible to copy it and put it into a translator. Not to mention we shouldn't need to do that.
Hopefully the op will get to shoot soon as its got to be frustrating, especially with the delays.
I agreed with the statement that it could rub people the wrong way. However just because some chose to be rubbed by it, doesnt mean its not accurate or wrong, but the opinion of the person.@MysticalDragon This is an international forum and you are a Johnny-come-lately member who is very opinionated, which is your right, but your ignorance is on display in the quoted post. A person’s native tongue and their idiocy are unrelated. In this instance the OP is disgruntled because a maintenance project has taken longer than expected or oissnky projected. I’ve worked in the public sector for a major city. At times a project date extending beyond the projected timeframe doesn’t fall upon the work crew. I’m not sure where “morons” come into play. The OP is there, I am not. Also, I’ve been on a job when’re someone who looked like me made a very similar comment to the OP’s (no this is not a threat) and I ended up splitting his head open behind it on another day, told him why I did it, and stayed on him until I was pulled off. That man took his like a man. I’m not saying that I was right. I was a younger man. My point here is that, when I say “it might rub some folks the wrong way,” you may not know how deeply your words may affect someone else living in our society. Some are a lot less tolerant of that type of talk.
The fact is the workers could be ignorant no matter what language they spoke, which leads to a reasonable inference that it was also a jab at the workers because they speak Spanish. If he left out the Spanish speaking reference would you have not been able to determine that he was unhappy with the work going on? What did the Spanish description add other than being inflammatory? I street intersecting mine that is about 1.5 miles long has been in the process of being restriped for almost a month.........I think whoever is in charge of getting this project done is a moron. No matter what language he speaks as it has nothing to do with it.I agreed with the statement that it could rub people the wrong way. However just because some chose to be rubbed by it, doesnt mean its not accurate or wrong, but the opinion of the person.
Yes I am opinionated. However, I am NOT ignorant, especially on this. One cannot tell if there was any racism or bigotry in the ops post. To have those would require a subsequent action, which there wasn't. Too often people scream those terms when its not the case. I hate true racism or bigotry when its seen. I also hate special treatment for a group as that means others don't get the same special treatment. However we simply do not know if that was the case with the op. The term used likely was based on the action, aka an action he saw as stupid, not their intelligence. Only the OP would know and I certainly didnt read it the same way as others who jumped on to persecute him did. As I learned in a communications course, "communication is a listeners phenomenon" meaning how communication is understood is based on the listener. Its why I offered another option and viewpoint.
Just because I'm a "johnny come lately member" does NOT make my point or opinion any less valid or accurate.
or quite likely he was calling the action of speaking spanish in an english speaking country, founded on english, as such, not that they were unintelligent in general. So explain to me how this is any better than what the OP posted? Its in the same league. What makes his so wrong and unacceptable, and yours so right and acceptable?@MysticalDragon you are a Johnny-come-lately member
Well we might as well add that to the copycat list of terminology that Americans are trying to embrace. We no longer talk FPS with grain pellet. We are on a FPE kick that forces guys to use backwards math and guess what projectile weight the guy might be using. We no longer have hunting spots. We have permissions. We don’t have a gun now, we have a piece of kit. We were original and had our own way of talking, now we are becoming copycats.Ezana4CE,
TORCH? the only person I have met, that called a flashlight a 'torch' was a multi language engineer from
Switzerland working on our 650 megawatt steam turbine
@Mystic Dragon I said what I said and stand by it. This isn't an argument nor a pissing contest. We have obvious differences of opinion and I'm ok with it.So explain to me how this is any better than what the OP posted? Its in the same league. What makes his so wrong and unacceptable, and yours so right and acceptable?
Something to ponder.
“special kind of treatment for a group” That statement speaks volumes to the narrow minded mentality that all spanish speaking people get “special” treatment. My grandfather came here in the 1950s as Cuban refugee not like the wave of Cuban criminals that came in the 80s(think Scarface w/ Al Pacino); rather he was apart of a group of Cubans that were trained by the CIA to overthrow the commie bastards that we so feared in those times(bay of pigs 1953). He FOUGHT for this country! No special treatment there. My mother fled her country because of a bloody civil war in the 80s. She came here with NOTHING and demanded nothing of the govt. She built her way up to being one of the most respected business women in our city. Much like the English who came to America fleeing persecution except she assimilated instead of colonizing like the forefathers did. Before many europeans came here the Mexicans were here. Hell the Mexicans owned much of America before it was “annexed”. There are Mexicans here that NEVER jumped the border. They stayed right where they were when America stole their land. Texans may know these people as Tejanos. So how about that, the Spanish language was spoke here before many Europeans came to this country. Ever wonder why it’s the second most spoken language? However we all speak the language of our colonizers. If you really want to be a true American you should learn Algonquin, Iriquois, Shawnee, Apache or any one of the native AMERICAN tongues that were spoke here before any of our ancestors arrived. These Mexicans have more Native American blood in them than you and I. They’re descendants are related to the true natives of southern (North) America. They’re descendants were the builders of the pyramids throughout Mexico. Have you ever worked with a Mexican? I can tell you haven’t if you assume it was because of their taking too long behind the OPs backyard. I can assure you it wasnt due to laziness or ineptness. Sure there are some bad apples among any ethnic group. That doesn’t mean we should ignorantly lump them together in one group. So the next time you here someone speaking Spanish don’t assume that they’re getting special treatment amigo.I agreed with the statement that it could rub people the wrong way. You really need to go back and read what i actually said. It will do you some good. Not one part of your dissertation was accurate or applied to what I said or my views.I’m

Or you could stop generalizing and understand not all Spanish speakers fall under that category. You stated special treatment for a group. Your previous statements were talking about the group of Spanish speakers. There are Spanish speakers that come from many countries not just the ones that border us. So be more specific instead of generalizing. You really need to go back and read what i actually said. It will do you some good. Not one part of your dissertation was accurate or applied to what I said or my views.
who said anything about spanish people getting special treatment? It was not I. It was a generic statement. For example, yesterday there was a measure I agreed with to some degree and didnt feel the state should be saying no to it. However I couldnt agree with because it had far too much special treatment for select people included in it. By doing so it was state sponsored discrimination against others which is wrong.
Nobody said one word about it being slow because of their heritage. I most certainly did not.
Actually your premise is incorrect regarding learning american indian languages. Many to most saw themselves as respective nations, and in fact are often referred to that way.
I have worked with a wide variety of people, both in the navy and in aviation. I've seen plenty of trash people that I couldnt respect. This was due to their lack of work ethic or lack of character, nothing else. I had several mechanics that if they said it was done, I would sign it off with MY certificate on the line, without even looking at it. I knew the quality of their work and I respected them that much. It didn't matter that they were of a different race. Therefore your assumption is just that and you know what they say about assuming.
You need to take off your biased glasses and learn to understand what someone is actually saying instead of interjecting things that I did not say into it.
You sure are, and seeing your opinion in every nook and cranny of this forum is getting really really old imo.Yes I am opinionated.
