This review is from a purchase I made back in June. I wanted to post this sooner but life got in the way. Now that I have all my backordered items and have some spare time to sit down and write, I figured now was the time to post. I’ll focus this on my purchase experience only. I had called up AoA after work on a Tuesday to chat about Daystate Pulsars. I had seen the big discounts they were offering, and I had been in search of a rifle that I could easily change power levels, and the Pulsar was on my radar because the Delta Wolf was delayed and a bit out of my price range anyway and I had also seen that Daystate had quietly made some upgrades to the electronics and battery on the Pulsar so I was interested in picking one up to see if they were better than the original ones. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the .22 high power models that I was looking for.
I spent a good bit of time chatting with Mr. Kip Perow, who ended up convincing me that a Pulsar standard would work for what I wanted. I mostly shoot targets and pest control on my property, with a max distance of roughly 75 yards. He took his time going over the rifle with me and arranged to send me a kit to upgrade the rifle to accept the new style Daystate magazines when they arrived since they were out of stock at the time. Everything was great and I was excited about my purchase… until I came to Airgun Nation.
You see, I have a bad habit of second guessing myself with big purchases so I like to get online and do research, both to learn about the stuff I’ve just purchased and to find out any quirks that other owners may have experienced. In my search, I came across @franklink’s review of the Red Wolf Standard – GCU 2. I always thought the Red Wolf was a beautiful rifle, but it was too long and expensive for my tastes. However, after learning that there was a compact Red Wolf that was quiet, affordable (relatively speaking), and could shoot heavy pellets and slugs, I was sold.
On Saturday morning I called up AoA and talked to Chris (I’m pretty sure that was his name). I asked to change my order to the Red Wolf Standard with GCU 2 and that I’d also need to have an Atlas rail installed for my bipod. He put me on hold to go check stock and then came back with bad news. “The Red Wolf GCU 2 is only available in High Power, not standard” he told me. I explained that I had read about the rifle online and even saw pictures so I knew it was real! He put me on hold again to check with a manager but came back to say that it still wasn’t available. I was a little upset, but since I knew this rifle had to exist, so I went through with the order for a Red Wolf standard (non-GCU2). I had a plan.
I logged onto AGN and sent @franklink a private message explaining what happened and asked if he knew someone I could contact to try and resolve the issue. Well, 30 minutes later my phone rang. It was Chris from AoA calling to apologize. Evidently, he was getting mixed messages from other AoA staff but he had recently received clarification and was shown where the GCU2 standard Red Wolf inventory was. It turns out that @franklink saw my PM and immediately called Lauren from AoA and she jumped right on it to resolve the problem. Needless to say, I was impressed with the prompt resolution and apology for their mistake.
In addition to my original ordering issue, I called AoA a couple more times and had Rich add some of the new JSB knockout slugs to my order and spoke with Jared to change my 0db moderator from the standard length to the compact. While on the phone, Jared noticed that I had the .22 moderator ordered but recommended that I upsize to the .25 to avoid clipping which I appreciated.
My updated order was shipped to me in 6 days, including the weekend (the extra mag and moderator were backordered). When I received the package, everything was packed securely, and I found that AoA had included an NSA slug sampler pack free of charge. That was a nice surprise! The rifle battery was also charged up fully and the gun was tested for accuracy. The rifle was also upgraded to the new style magazine.
The moderator and pellets shipped separately. When I received the package, I found that I got shipped the old style .22 monsters instead of the redesigned versions I had ordered. I called up and Rich took care of it. He told me to keep the mistake pellets and had the correct tins in the mail to me that afternoon.
All in all, I appreciate the patience of all the AoA staff I dealt with while they put up with my indecisiveness. Everyone I dealt with was extremely professional and courteous. The work they did on the stock to install the rail was flawless as well.
If you want my impressions of the rifle, I posted them here in this thread: HERE
