Benjamin My .177 mrod shoots slugs, anyone else’s ??

I’ve had this rifle since 2010.
( .177 Mrod )
It likes 4.53 / 4.52 pellets. A Lot ! It shoots JSb 10.3 and HN 10.65

On a whim I tried JSb knockout slugs in 10.03
Oh boy what a surprise !

Anyone else have any luck with Marauders and slugs ?

Note. Upon further evaluation I misspoke.
Does NOT shoot them well enough for target or hunting.

Sorry gents got excited with a few lucky groups.

Most problem in .25 is the choke is way to tight because is designed for pellets only..not only for the mrod, old hatsan, crickets, taipans, n uragan 1 .. suck shooting slugs because of the tight choke.. I recently purchased a taipan standard, that supposedly had a unchoke barrel since it uses the barrel of the taipan 2 and what a different it shoots slugs 34gr knockouts and 34gr fx pellets perfect even when going at best 840fps .

The Green Mountain barrel on my old .25 Mrod was a machining disaster. It didnt shoot well at all but I don't the twist rate is a problem for lighter weight short slugs. I've got a few rifles in multiple calibers, with 17-18" twist rate barrels that throw the airgun slugs quite well. Some of the larger caliber purpose built air sluggers do use a faster twist with the longer, heavier ammo. A choked barrel can launch slugs accurately but there is usually a significant drop in FPS using slugs vs pellets.

Welp perle I'm hijacking the thread it would seem 🤣 (we're pals).

I was stoked to see it had a gm barrel when I bought it new because the barrel on my 22lr that kept me in the top 2 of the leader board for a couple years was a gm, beating out every other ruger barrel maker you can think of (it wasn't the barrel doing all the magic, i was headspaced for the match ammo I had a crate of) . The choke is definitely the issue for me the machining is top notch surface finish/deburring/bluing on my example. It only shoots jsb kings precisely and fast enough for my wishes on all stock components now. Which is fine with me. I got a 25 dreamline that is everything I wished my mrod to have been.

Slugs, I learned this lesson the hard way on an impact. Slugs aren't really any advantage till 100 yards for me, but i haven't put my toe into the 177 waters until today so it may be a much larger gain for a mid to high powered 177 gun WITH LITTLE OR NO CHOKE. If fx and lw use less or no choke for slug barrels , I figure there's reason.

Hang on to that mrod perle, I get the feeling the "good" era of crosman is going to become relatively desirable soon. Iirc putting the 25 valve into he 177 and 22 gave them a bit more cajones too. It's been a while since I was in the crosman pcp world but I'm back now, as you know.

Having played around quite a lot with .177 slugs, the issue is not the gun per-say but the barrel fitted to it. The .177 marauder mechanically is very slug doable as it is the choked barrel and generally a tad oversize bore where the combo does not work well as a slugger :(
Now go buy an LW 12g No Choke barrel & run it at full length and get it fitted ya got an excellent modest power slugger IMO :giggle:
* Toss in a JSAR "M-rod spec" balanced valve with a light hammer ... you can create a beastly slugger.
