my 1000x progress

I recieved this quest 1000x with only 25 cphp ran through it. it shot quarter size groups at first, once I learned the recoil it got down to between nickel and penny size groups. all at 10-15 yard ranges

after appx 600 cpd I did a de burr, leveling/polishing of the spring ends, re crown, loctite on screws.

i also made a redesigned ldc: 5 1/2" deep k baffles, 1-1/4" primary tube, outer alignment skirt with factory sight tip built in-adjustable cant, all aluminum construction. -45db

still using cpd, it now stacks pellets/makes a ragged hole the size of a dime at 10-15 yard ranges.

absolutely love this rifle for what it is. my only qualm is the stock, I've never liked monte carlo and shotgun style stocks. I find stocks with a more vertically oriented grip, not only more comfortable, but more accurate also.
I'd really like to find a pistol grip or agressive thumbthrough style. like a trail np elite, tr77, incursion, qb78s, ar2078, sentry.

honestly thinking about taking a shot at making my own. I could do a traditional wood on the cheap pretty quickly, but I'd rather have the weight savings of fiberglass/kevlar/carbon.

I'd love a sunset lam stock...but dont want to stick a $300 stock on a $100 rifle lol.

I actually decided to try my hand at refinishing tonight! (was doing the finish on my sons pwd car for scouts anyway) pulled the stock off and reworked the stock to be right hand rather than ambidextrous. then did a full orbital sand at 180g. then proceed to do a "rit dye" cherry red stain (1 part rit dye 2 parts dna)

looks great, just applied the first coat of spray poly. wish I would have done denim blue, but the cherry looks more traditional in case I sell the stock.

....just gotta make sure it is , indeed , a good barrel....some of those chinese barrels are just fine (less than half in my experience).....see what those groups do at 25-35 yards....... i remember some of those guys would get some really good results from customizing the quest 800 (.22) rifles... even with all of those turk webleys and hatsans i went thru - i had to make sure the barrel was good before doing much of anything else.....mass produced barrels - anything can happen.
