Benjamin Muting the Marauder (How to make the quietest Marauder possible)

I’m just here to talk about hammers and you’re literally crying how I don’t want to read your old posts. You’re broken. Go away.
Allow me to intervene a bit here . . . I think Scott is not willing to say a few things that would help you understand, and you are missing much of the picture here, since you are coming to the party about 15 years late. Maybe you can read this and reset the discussion . . . .

Scott is a bit of a rare breed here, and I mean that in a good way - you really need to understand a few things . . .

First, the Marauder - while a fine gun (I have several with no plans to part with them) - is kind of "old technology." They were an amazing breakthrough in the world of PCPs when they came out in 2008/2009 with Gen I, and had a major "update" to Gen II a few years after that. Since then, not so much has changed with the basic gun, other than a few options like regulated or with LW barrels (setting aside the semi-auto, which is a very different version with lots of limitations).

Back in the day, we all tinkered with them and made some great discoveries and improvements. Scott was at the forefront of that, and openly shared what he learned, as we all did (interestingly, I think the big exception to that was Tim Hill - he went straight to a business model with custom parts, some created with shared info from all of us). Scott also had the tools to make parts, and made some for sale to us other airgunners - I do have some of his lightweight hammers. But eventually, the Marauder kind of faded into the background, at least in terms of what people were tinkering with, because so many other companies built on what Crosman did with the Marauder and offered "better" guns, or at least better value guns. There used to be a massive market of aftermarket parts out there - Tim Hill's stuff was a small part of it at the time (and in my opinion was nowhere near the leading edge), but now is almost all that is left. As all that capability was developing, Scott was very much at the forefront of it (including working with the predecessor to JSAR, helping develop the balanced valve they sell, and openly telling all of us how to make them ourselves if we could).

Anyways, most of us moved on from the Marauder, and Scott expanded his knowledge and skills into many other brands of guns along the way and now runs his own tuning and customization business. I've used him for a few things on other guns, as I don't have access to the tools that he has. You could, for example, send your gun to him telling him exactly what you want, I don't doubt he will get it there for you - or tell you it can't be done straight up (his early responses here indicate that he thinks it can be done).

Now for the rare breed part: Scott shared all that development work in all it's detail with us back then on the GTA (and also the defunct Marauder Forum - lots of lost info when that one went down). And after starting his business he did not "purge" all that data, but rather chose to not only leave it up there, but to openly tell people where it is and to feel free to access it. True, it can be a lot to wade through - after all, it was freely shared "development" on multiple fronts in real time and not a concise final report of a specific project.

So when he is telling you that the info is there if you want to find it, it is there for you to use - and he created much of it. He (nor any of us) are under no obligation to tell you anything. He has done massively more for you already than Tim Hill has . . . (in my opinion, Tim just sold you parts that made him money but didn't deliver on what you want).

You seem to now be insisting that he either directly answer his questions or leave the thread, and he seems to not be willing to let you have the "last word" in terms of saying anything somewhat negative of his participation . . we do run into new "trolls" here all the time, so I can understand his point of view. I also can underatnd yours - you are just asking a "simple question," right? It's only when understanding the history of how we got here that you can realize that answer to your simple question ends up with a gun that looks like a Marauder on the outside, but is nothing like it on the inside.

Maybe try again, with this different perspective?

There is no excuse for this kind of CONTROLLING behavior. This guy could be the ****ing designer of marauder and I wouldn’t give a ****.

If I want to start a discussion, I will ****ing start a discussion and anyone that says that I can’t have that conversation can go jump off a cliff, I don’t give a ****.

I’m here to TALK to people. I’m not here to READ some old HAS BEENS glory days, about crap that is so not relevant.

If he had the ability to even link a relevant thread I wouldn’t be annoyed. But this asshat sends me a 3 page discussion where he’s just reminiscing “how great he was”. I don’t think he’s great at all. And I have no respect for experience that comes with a bunch of road blocks.

My post is for people that want to PARTICIPATE in my discussion, you don’t get to come here and tell me my discussion doesn’t get to happen. I don’t care who you are, owner of airgun nation? I don’t care. You treat me with respect and I will too.

Now for this LOW LIFE IMBECILE. He was politely requested to stop after I called out the fact he was trying to control how I communicate with the community.

I don’t find your defense of him very enlightening. I think you’re defending abuse and harassment. If that’s you, you can go away too.

I want to talk about tuning, in 2025, with people that aren’t about to die in 2025 they’re so old and irrelevant. Not read about what some asshat did 10 years ago, oh and it has nothing to do with what I’m doing.

If you have the knowledge, read my post, and have fingers. Respond to it, don’t redirect me, I’m not interested in reading conversations. I’m interested in having them.

This post was more of a ****ing how to by the way guys. I don’t need anyone’s help, I said it would be nice. I don’t need literally anyone’s glory days story’s. I got this probably better than anyone in this discussion has got their marauder, I’ve never seen evidence anyone’s does better.

So **** your old conversations. Talk to me or just move on and don’t respond. I really don’t care at all about anyone’s history lesson. It’s pompous and prententious.
Scott is a good guy , no sugar coating guy ! he helped me on the phone get a gun apart so i could fix it BSA " he was very helpful and didnt have to waste his time with me but he chose to be helpful and did ! if you have a problem narrowed down he will take a moment to help get you through that " or he has with most of us , hes not new to any of this ! when you hit a snag he will usually help you un hook it ! so to speak ! most of us here like him and dont want to hear you call him names , we all get a little frustrated but attacking a guy that most of us like and respect here isnt the best way to get help here,

Put "him" on ignore. That is what I did. Life is better.
The admin team should do something about him and I have reported all his posts and wrote them directly about him. He should be banned, harassment, trying to shuffle people off this forum to another. He’s no one air gun nation wants around.

If people can’t post here about anything that’s been said once before, shut down the servers because people shouldn’t be talking anymore.

Well, I tried to mediate a bit . . . I observed a slow decent into a lack of civility and thought I could help.

But your reply to my post says enough to me about you - full on rant. In retrospect, Scott was right and I should have just left it alone. It sounds like your definition of respect is kind of a one way street flowing in your direction. From my perspective in reading the posts I think you went lower faster anyways - but that is in the past. You could have just left it alone early but chose not to do so.

I expect what you wish for from the admin team won't happen - best case, both of you get admonished, and worst case, you get the banishment. If there was any harassment, you goaded him into it. This thread may get locked too.

I'm out. Good luck.

@Sdrawkcabnipyt & @Motorhead its ok that you two can't see eye on something, that's the brilliance of opinions. What isn't ok is publicly (or privately) breaking the sites rules by insults and inappropriate behavior. I suggest both of you go to each others profile, click on the more options button, then BLOCK each other.

Publicly (or privately) harassing each other is unacceptable and breaking this sites rules will result in warnings and/or termination of the account.

I just want to talk about the marauder. I don’t want to be silenced or redirected. I don’t need to mute him because he should also be following the rules you’re stating. I want to make posts on this forum without threat of ANYONE doing this again. So you should be firm in holding him accountable.

I have done nothing but try to talk about tuning until motorhead demanded I leave this site and read his posts. That’s not ok, on principle I stand where I am no matter what you chose. If you want to defend this lunacy that’s a problem with air gun nation. But you’re defending someone who doesn’t want people using your forum anymore.

looka here you are so mixed up you do not know what way to turn,in fact you are a so far of course you come here and insult people who are trying to help you .I did get a lot of good from your post because I am new to the Marauder ,those really old post done a long time ago help me,for that I can thank you .So why are they not helping you? If you know so much why not do your thing? That way you will have help yourself and can help others someday instead of the bs you caused.
You have many very knowledgeable people trying to help you =thus, there is a lack of appreciation on your part.......
So just apologize to your fellow air gunners and be a bigger man for it

ok 1. I don’t care to keep on talking about this crybaby.
2. He is not helping me because I asked him to stop, and he got offended.
3. I made this post to share with people so that they could benefit from this. In 2025 most the posts you’ll find are irrelevant. Discourse and ideas was supposed to be a second to me sharing what I did. I’ve yet to find anything similar.

So please save your opinions on why I decided to push away someone. I don’t want that help and I don’t want any assessments of it. I’m so perfectly fine with how everything went. He’s not bothering me anymore.

There are people new right now and that’s what some people can’t get through their heads. They think this place is an archive and we have to learn from only them, we can’t have our own conversations in their eyes. I will have a WORLD of fun tinkering without their help. I am in no need of help. I said it would be fun to hear other experiences. That’s all.

If you want to share something you know in my post share it. But this is my post, he thinks his post should be the one that people read. Tough luck.

Leave the subject alone. I’d do it again, no regrets, I wish I could say more.

Here's what i'm trying.
I made a delrin cap to go over the hammer to maybe stop some metal on metal pinging.
Machined a 1/2" bar down to make a spring stop and will add some o-rings in front of the hammer as a stop to help with the bounce. My gun always make fart noises so I hope that helps.
I also polished the hammer because it is makes scratchy sounds when cocking.
