MRA Field Target for 3/25/2023

The weather predicted rain or sleet arriving around 1 pm. I arrived at the club around 7:30 am to repair a couple of strings and look over any obstructions to the lanes as well as set up the site in range. It was a cold morning, about 31 degrees, and warmed up to a windy 41 by the end of the match. Honestly overall we had a very nice day and got a little cool but we remained dry. The sleet started to fall just after I took the last shoot and started to zip up my rifle bag. I had 4 guests arrive for a cool morning to try their luck and shoot some FT.

We started the match around or just before 10:00 am and finished at 1:30 pm. The setup is a 17-lane 68-shot course, with many shots 50 yards plus. All was quiet for the first hour and as the morning progressed the wind started to pick up and make it feel like a cold March morning in the North East. Overall the match went quite smoothly with 1 cold line for a snapped string from a critter chewing on it. I definitely had a lot of misses, due to bad wind calls, either striking exactly where I was aiming or not holding enough at times. I brought out the AA FTP 900 for a spin. I had just recently repaired a leak and decided to give it a go with the old Bushnell Elite 8-32 Tagret reticle it was fun but I'll be changing the scope to something I'm more used to using. As for the rest of the group Leo G, Connor M, Gerard O, and Chaz D, all had a great time bearing the cold for some good old Field Target. In particular, Gerrad and Chaz had Fantastic scores with Chaz as the leader with a 63/68 Congratulations, excellent shooting! At the end of the match, the guys helped me pick up and we all said our goodbyes.

How do you get into this I am from Iowa?

My father started shooting FT in the late 90s and introduced me to it. I go into about seriously 12 years ago. My Dad has been into air guns for decades so I've been an air gun shooter all my life. It's a very fun sport. It is one of the most welcoming shooting sports out there, honestly, both competitors and all the folks involved I've met are fantastic people.
