Mount a bipod on a springer

I recently purchased a Stoeger X20 .22 cal and after I replace the scope I decided that I needed a bipod. I didn't want to mount a bipod to the barrel so I searched the web and purchased a rail kit and a two piece bipod from amazon.com for less than $30 and free shipping yay! So here is the sequence and how I mounted it:

Rail kit purchased from amazon.com. I didn't know it when I order the kit that the rails are made of plastic and not aluminum, but that wasn't a problem.

Had to figure out exactly where to mount the rails so that they would be rigid on the fore-stock.

Applied tape to the both sides of the stock and marked the hole locations.


It was easier and quicker for me to drill the hole into the fore-stock with a hand drill instead of using my drill press.


Once the holes were drill I mounted the rails on both sides of the stock with the screws/nuts supplied with the kit.



Not shown in this pic, but I had to remove portions of the screws protruding past the nuts inside the stock so that they would not interfere with cocking the rifle.


Finished product with the two piece bipod mounted.


Overall I'm very happy with the addition of the bipod, it's rigid, sturdy and made a big difference. Hope this was helpful

Much better and more comfortable with the bipod of course, but just keeping the gun level is a bit difficult when shifting and changing location. I need to mount a level on the scope, I think that will help.

Brilliant stuff! A comment saying is to never use a bipod on a springer. Do you notice any poi shift if you were to rest the gun on a standard rest?

Yes I purchase the rail kit and bipod from Amazon.com Please see the link below. The set up is nice especially when using my scope cam.

Sorry but I cant see an answet to my question. He confirms he feel more comfortable though. I wounder if you get a different poi with the same scope settings but different rest.

No the point of impact is the same, but I have to really concentrate on my trigger pull for concistancy with grouping my shots with or without the bipod. I had serious issues with accuracy during the break in period and I didnt know about barrel droop at first, but once I changed to a different scope and mounted a riser to compensate for the barrel droop improved accuracy was the result. I was very frustrated at first. Oh and at 30 yards I've experienced a significant improvement with grouping with the occasional stray, but I really need to do something with the trigger.

Try the Charlie da tuna trigger or the Welsh willy trigger. Both are very similar. I had the same trouble with my stoeger x20 suppressor. I ordered the WW trigger and fitted it myself (very easy, there's a fitting video online). Afterwards it felt like a new gun. A proper two stage trigger, fully adjustable with a light and predictable let off.

I ordered the "Charlie Da Tuna" trigger today and I hope that it helps to improve my grouping. Seemed to be reasonably priced so I'm hoping for significant results.

So I decided to weight a tin of JSBs that are labeled as 14.35 gr and 5.5 mm head. I found that the weight ranges from 14.2 to 14.6, which Is really not that bad, 80% of the tin was 14.3 or 14.4gr. Now the tin says 14.35 and my scale only goes to tenths so I grouped all these pellets together and called them the same weight. I shot 20 at the target with a 5 to 7 mile quartering wiind from behind with the exact same hold on each shot. Below is the target with 6 shots outside the Quarter and 14 underneath, with rest from my zero 25yds with my Stoeger x20 S.
