Motorhead tuned Diana 48 or new TX200 carbine

The Diana 48 was my first “real” springer. While it’s accurate and has a good trigger, it could use a tune to help tame the vibration and shot cycle. My choice for this task is Motorhead. As I was calculating what I’d have to spend for his tune with shipping I had an idea to buy a TX 200. The look of the TX blows away the D48. And from what I hear, a brand new TX shoots like a tuned Weihrauch. For those guys who have had the Motorhead tune, is it worth it to spend $250(shipping included) or just buy the “best” springer on the market?

Go find a used recent production Walther LGU or LGV if you are wanting perfect shooting springers straight out of their boxes with plastic triggers (pretty ok though). If you're gonna PAY to tune something get the HW97k or 77k or RWS 54 or 56. Get the RWS 54 or 56 only if you plan on expecting easy consistent sub 1" groups at 50 yards without even trying hard or shooting 100 yards or farther up to 200 yards realistically in perfect weather conditions. I just bought a tuned 54 because I specifically planned to shoot a Springer at 100 yards and couple airgun biddies said theirs get sub MOA and wanted to see for myself. Otherwise for 50 yards all other springers mentioned should be good enough to work ok.

I got both,ok mine is a 52 it is about the most powerful springer out there,it is also accurate and needs a 20degree scope mount and a strong scope.it is a pest killer, not really a plinker...the TX200 is way more refined..a different type of air rifle....no way you gonna get a TX200 for $250.

You need to ask yourself what you really want...myself using" your" money go ahead and have Motorhead tune your 48.That said I would have the 48 to be TUNED almost as powerful as it is now....it is my go to pest killer.....look at it this way,...you can not get a better springer for $250 and please tell us your choice and how you like the tune....LOL...

I had a D52, which is a gussied up 48. It shot accurately, but the vibration was a scope killer. A very harsh rifle IMO.. The fit, finish, smoothness and accuracty of the TX200 is worlds better than the Diana. Futhermore, it's easy to tune if you want to. No need for a spring compressor or special tools.

I bet it’s way more accurate with the LW barrel and less vibration. Thanks for the info about ease of tuning, that’s definitely something I like to consider when buying a gun.

I was looking at the LGU on sale at Krale. I was tempted to buy it but want something that shoots smoothly AND has a better than average look and feel. Man that 54-56 would be at the top of my list if it wasn’t so bulky. Having a magnum springer with the sled technology is a fair trade off for the extra weight. Even though the TX can’t reach out like the 54 can, it wins by a landslide in the beauty contest. Although, I’ll probably buy both. I really like that sled tech

Lol you’re right about the Motorhead tune it’s well worth the money.
I never stated that I was going to find a TX for $250. I was wondering if it would be worth it to tune a 48 or just put the $250 towards a new TX

My thinking is with Yos here. Just my humble opinion and for a variety of reasons. I like that HW makes their own barrels and has a history of accuracy, you can tune shot cycle in anything... reviewers used to say a TX is closest to a tuned gun out the box but now I hear that more from Walther. IF I was in your shoes I’d tune that side lever.

That may be true about the Walther being amazing out the box but the looks are average. It looks like the TX has the best of both worlds

BTW I owned my fair share of Diana 48s and 52s and 54s and 56s. I had a Ken Reeves Tuned 48 that was stupid accurate out to 50 yards. That one was one him in I regret selling to a local shooting buddy who shot it and bugged the hell outa me to sell it to him (I DONT SELL MY GUNS!) Sold it only with a rather strict agreement to sell it back only to me after he gets bored with it. He refuses to sell it back EVER! Also regret selling my 20 caliber and 25 caliber limited versions same agreement never getting those back either and I primarily collect airguns.

Yea I wouldn’t have done that deal because I’m thinking they might mess up a perfect gun. Them not making good on their end of the deal is a scumbag move you probably didn’t expect
