Most accurate/versatile compact barrel?

I was shocked to find my taipan vet long was equipped with only a 550mm barrel. The results being a very highly reputable CZ barrel. I guess the question is if the CZ barrels are more capable or maybe flexible with shooting a variety of pellets/slugs than LW or FX equivalent? At the 500mm barrel length? I have heard of 1or 2 members swapping out taipan barrels on their guns for an FX barrel, but I think it was for longer barrel for more power and for slug shooting. I know it’s opinion only, and LW , CZ , and FX make great stuff. But sniperqty shot both CZ and fx head to head and CZ was better in that experience.

Wow that is shocking for how long the gun is and with the name long in the model.

like you said they are all good barrels and one cool thing about FX barrel is their design and manufacturing process can be easily updated and they are constantly improving what’s already great, the new superior liners are superb especially in .22, shockingly good with anything I’ve put in it with laser accuracy and that across 3 barrels not just 1 out of 3. Incredible consistency in quality with the superior barrels, which make me wonder what they would call the next version? Superior-er barrel? Hahahaha

like the good old saying, if you won the barrel lottery then don’t touch it! However my personal opinion on the most flexible, non-ammo fussy, highest chance of winning the barrel lottery would be the FX superior barrels. if it shoots crosman pellets like laser then it’s a winner in my book! LOL

I think that most of the barrel makers have come a long way in the past few years. The chocked CZ, LW and FX barrels all shoot many pellets quite well and even a few slugs. But with the FX you can change the liner in a couple of minutes to shoot a completely new set of projectiles just as well.

My 700mm slug A barrel shoots NSA 33.5, 36, 36.2, 38.5 and VK 34gr less the MOA at 100 yards all on the same tune. It has also shot the JSB 33.95 MKII pellets just the same at the same range on a windless day. To be honest I have only tried a couple of other slugs as there is no reason to take this any further as what I have shoots so well there is really no reason to do so. The FX barrels have another big plus going for them also. They are so much lighter than any of the others they have no competition in this area. For me to switch barrels the other would have to perform hands down above the FX and there is nothing that will do this as far as I can see.

I have a 500mm .22 barrel on my gun now and with a good tune I expect it to shoot just as well. Why? Because I have seen others do it.

Barrel comparisons are hard cuz if you give a barrel what it likes to shoot most will perform admirably for you. But if you expect a CZ, LW or FX to like the same projectiles, and a multitude there are out there, think again because it usually just isn't so.

As far as sniperqty's test it means little to nothing as he shot the test with only one pellet and one tune and with the old style Smooth Twist barrel not with an STX or one of the newest Superior liners. So all that is proven here is that the gun, with it's specific tune and the LW barrel, liked the pellets he was shooting, at the speed he was shooting them, slightly better than the old style ST barrel did at that same speed. So really not much of a test at all it was.

Now if he used many different pellets, preferably the pellets the barrels liked best, at many different speeds for each barrel and pellet combination the results would actually be useful.

I use a superior liner (500mm) on my .22 caliber FX Crown. Among all the barrels available, that is the most flexible. I've been shooting slugs @ about 940fps without really tuning or dialing in anything, and is doing extremely well with them. Of course it shoots lights out with pellets too.

I also bonded the liner with carbon fiber to increase rigidity (reduces sensitivity to tune). The superior is desinged specifically to shoot both pellets and low to mid-weight slugs effectively.

biohazardman- i was not aware that sniperqty video was with the original fx smooth twist liner. that of course , changes things. After all , all these barrels are better than me. I was just looking to point out that even with a 550 mm barrel in the long and shorter in the taipan standard and shorty. those barrels produce! the attainable out of box power. NO?

now the superior liner seems to be special , with the slug / pellet combo ability. They may be tops over CZ , but I feel CZ was first with this ability. not to say LW is a slouch. I guess I was looking to kick CZ some more respect. After all , I am partial to Taipan. But I have big respect for the newer FX stuff. Was looking to hear from barrel experts / enthusiasts.
