More tunning questions on the liberty

I am finding my shot count has dropped a lot when I shimmed the hammer spring. I found from tuning my marauder that you have to have a slight gap on the hammer spring to stop hammer bounce is it the same on the liberty? I was able to shim the liberty hammer slightly without any pre-load and my shot count increased dramatically. I was watching a You tube video where someone made a screw type adjuster which was great to increase power but what will this do to shot count. Anybody have a similar experience?

Thank you,

Jim

It's not the hitting the valve harder, it's the hammer bounce that is wasting air. Has anybody tried a twin spring setup to get more power without the hammer bounce?

Yes, that's exactly what I did with mine. I shortened the original and then added an inner spring. I just kept cutting the inner spring until I got to the velocity I had it tuned at. I gave some of these springs to the buyer of my gun, but I do have another left. If you want it just send me PM with your address and I will mail it to you.

I have the same gun. How much shorter did you cut the original hammer spring? The inner spring you added. Was it longer? What gauge wire spring? Thanks

Bigtinboat,

I installed the spring setup and the three shims that came with the gun and I am getting forty foot pounds of energy from H&N 21.14 pellets and the gun is actually quieter then when I had it shimmed to the max. It sounded like a cannon from the hammer bounce and was not even getting as much power. I think I'm going to pull two shims out and try to get the velocity down to between 875 and 900.

Thank you,

Jim

Bluecup

The second spring rides inside of the first?? And sits on top of the spring guide? So it only sits in the top part of the sprig? Trying to get an idea of how to do this set up. When you pull the spring guide & set the main spring over it, is the second spring inside the same height as the top of the main spring?

I would like to try it, if I can find out what size & length of spring to start with. Would ace hardware carry something I could use? Thanks.

Hawkeye51,

I was given this spring by bigtinboat, he thinks the spring is 0.24 O.D. 0.035 wire size and 1.625 long. The spring sits inside the stock spring and is even or a hair shy in length the key is to remove any preload on the stock spring to stop the hammer bounce. think of it like the game croquet if the balls are touching and you put your foot on the first ball and whack it the second ball goes flying if they have any space between them nothing happens. If you don't have any luck with that spring size let me know and I will measure my spring next time I pull my stock off.

Good luck,

Jim
