More killin with the Huben

man I love this gun setup. Just got in and mounted up an Arken SH4 4-14x44 scope that I purchased from a member here. Love it.

After a few sight in shots at home I went to a local farm to see if any birds were around. It was very windy, gusting up to 25 mph so I knew it would be tough shooting. But you have to go out when you can. I didn't see many when I pulled in so I went to see if any groundhogs were out. No luck there.

I shot e few sparrows and starlings then I noticed a flock of pigeons coming in. I shot one on top of a grain bin at 50 yards and thought I killed him but later found out I didn't. They flew around and landed on a silo that I just ranged at 70 yards. I put number 2 crosshair on him and gave him 1 mil hold for wind. Plop and down he came. The next one landed in a hole on the side of the silo and I dropped him he fell inside the chute and came out the bottom after dropping about 50 feet.. another one landed on a feeder and I dropped him at 40 yards. Those two were in the cow pen and I couldn't recover them.

I shot a bunch more starlings and sparrows going through a total of 80 shots. I probably missed 20 or more as the wind was hard to judge and constantly changing.

The owner showed up and we were talking about stuff when two more pigeons landed on a short bin in front of us. He said "there you go." So I dropped one but the other took off and d isn't return. That one got stuck on the ladder on top.

I'm shooting a 2018 Huben K1 .22 launching 18 gr JSB at 900 fps. I really like this Arken scope too. Makes for a great combo.

These pics are from where I was standing when I shot most of them. It was 48 yards to top of silo and 70 to top of grain bin.

For me, 14x is enough. I routinely shoot out past 100 yards and have picked off several birds at up to 120 yards or more. I have a Athlon Talos BTR 4-14 on my other Huben and wanted something similar in 30 mm but without illumination so I bought this Arken scope. Its perfect for my needs. I'm a big fan of 30mm scopes now and liking the FFP too. I usually set them at 10x and go from there if I need more or less depending on conditions and range.

I like the less cluttered reticle in this Arken too. It has just what I like such as the small floating crosshair similar to the Athlon. I. Just bought a Vector Taurus 3-18×50 too with the illumined dot reticle but ended up selling it to my friend as he wanted it worse than I did. I like the crosshair better.

I shoot under similar conditions. If you missed 20 out of 100 you did really well. I find the distances significant and the wind critical.
If you are shooting birds off the same spot (which happens some times) and you get zeroed in AND there is no wind you almost can’t miss. BUT add some wind and a starling becomes a pretty challenging target. They also don’t sit long do they. Pigeons are bigger and certainly easier.

Hi Harry

The Taurus is a great scope and I bought it to check it out against my Athlon. However I decided that I like the floating crosshair better than the dot . My friend already has one Vector with same reticle as the taurus just not illuminated so he wanted it to have two similar scopes. Nothing wrong with it at all, just personal preference.
