So, I bought a Crosman F4 before Christmas, I must say it is a fun NP rifle. But, I read up on the reviews of several air rifles before I bought it and convinced myself that whichever NP rifle I settled on, the scope was probably going to be a joke. So that being said, I bought a different scope for it before I ever actually bought the rifle.
Anyway, the 4x32 Center Point never got mounted. I never even actually took the bubble-wrap off of it. I mounted the new scope that I bought and carried on with it. Then a couple of days ago I was in my kitchen and noticed 6 deer about 40 yards away from the window. The Center Point scope was sitting on a shelf in the nearest closet, so I grabbed it quick thinking that I could get a closer peek at the deer. When I pulled it out and raised it up to look through it, I was quickly distracted away from the deer because the reticle was canted about 20 degrees clockwise from turret alignment.
Crosman makes some decent air rifles IMO, but what is up with these junk scopes? About 10 years ago I bought a 4-16x44 CP for my .17 HMR, and it's construction and accuracy never let me down. Maybe I got lucky with it. But this 4x32 CP is a piece of crap. It even feels cheap just holding it, let alone looking through it. I was thinking about just gifting it to someone who might need a cheap scope to get started out with but now that I found out that this one is defective right out-of-the-box, I can't even do that in good conscience. What I do find even more interesting is that the "included" CP scope in these packaged air rifle combos is not the same 4x32 CP scope that is sold on shelves... which suggests to me that they know that they are packing the most bottom-of-the-barrel scopes that they can possibly manufacture with these air rifles. To an unsuspecting or uninformed buyer, I find this disappointing for a guy who may be buying this as a gift for his son or something, thinking that the scope will match the quality of the air rifle, only to find out later that little Timmy can't hit the broad side of a barn because the equipment is defective.
I would rather that companies like Crosman either up-charged the cost of the air rifles by $25 or more and included a half-decent optic, or cut the cost of the air rifle altogether by $5 or so and just included some decent rings with no scope at all. I am a believer in "you get what you pay for," but it has been proven that you can get a half-decent scope on a budget that actually holds zero pretty well. This 4x32 CP doesn't even fit into that category. Anyway, that's my CenterPoint rant lol.
