Moderator for boss

Interesting question. I have owned an FX Boss since July of this year and have put over 3,000 rounds through it. While I would not consider it loud, it would be nice if it were a bit quieter. The pellet impact noise grossly exceeds that of the report, yet it would be less stressful to shoot if it was just a tad quieter. I will be watching this thread for helpful replies.

Thank you for posting a good thread!

Do Huggett make an LDC specifically for a 30 cal?

The ones I have seen looked a little small to make a dent in something that powerful.

The Boss comes with a fairly long shroud which makes it a long rifle to start with. While the shroud is long, it's not particularly large in diameter. If it was me, I would ask one of the good custom LDC makers if they could build a large diameter replacement shroud to give you more volume without making the gun unmanageable.

The custom guys may have done it for others so perhaps they could tell you how much noise reduction is possible so you can decide if it is worth it.

Something else you could try which is a lot cheaper is making a DIY quiet box. You just need a long cardboard box and some sound dampening fabric to make one. Some of the extreme big bore makers use them to test high power air guns indoors without damaging their hearing. I remember reading an article about it written by Tom Gaylord on his PA blog a while ago. It should still be there if you want to read about it. He said it was very effective.

"puertorico"Zebra...I don't know if hugget makes a specific one for the boss but it's 269 at AOA plus shipping the rifle up there. I was really hoping that someone who owns a boss might have tried an aftermarket one to let me and others know if it is effective. Yes you are correct the boss is loooooong, but I still love the thing.
Not saying you shouldn't love it. Just making a suggestion on how you could achieve what you want without making it too long to manage.

whenever I have had rifles that are increased to over 50" by an LDC, they have been unmanageable for me. They don't fit anywhere and you end up knocking it against branches when hunting and against door frames in the house etc.

I like to use my rifles as window guns (especially in winter) and part of discrete shooting for me is not having 3 feet of barrel and silencer poking out my window for my neighbors to see. It's one of those things that looks worse than it is. I don't want them assuming I am an assassin sniper instead of backyard plinker.

in general, my preference is to increase the shroud diameter instead of adding length but that's just me. If making the rifle 55" is no issue for you then you can go a different route.

"puertorico"Zebra, sorry if I wasn't clear..I am agreeing with you lol. I would love to take off a couple inches on this thing. It irls really long and hunting down here in the jungle (rainforest) can make it difficult. I might give Neil a call or find out about Donny Du...do any of you have his contact info?
If you are outside of the States, I would avoid buying from an American vendor. Even if they will ship to other countries (I don't think NC does), there is a higher chance of it not getting to you than if you ordered from a silencer friendly country.
