Moderator curlers

trying to find suitable plastic or metal curlers that you wrap felt around to put inside a shroud/moderator. mine in this case is a huub shroud. i need a curler with a diameter of 9/16" to do it. anyone know where i can find these. have not found option in U.S. so far. did not see on amazon or elsewhere. i am fine with constructing my own . any ideas on what tubing to get , let me know please.

rangor1,

You obviously don't believe me, so I invite you to make the moderator like you want, Then measure the attenuation, sound meters are cheap from China. Then take out all the poop you put inside the moderator tank and test the sound volume again. Then report back here your observations. I'm pretty sure we can then have a much more meaningful conversation. I've been there, done this many times. You will find a change in sound pitch, but no change in sound volume.

He is making a MODERATOR, not a sound REDUCER so how can you say it doesn't work? If the perceived sounds is "lower" based on the pitch change (as opposed to a volume change) wouldn't you say the device is "working"? Personally I would.

BTW- I have added curlers (dollar store to answer the original question) and washers to an empty shroud and the perceived difference in sound ( i have no sound meters and wouldn't trust a cheap one from china) is tremendous.

Also to the OP - if you can't find curlers the correct size I have taken a piece of PVC pipe or copper pipe and drilled holes to get it to work. All you really need is a spacer for the washers. Drilling the holes allows you to keep more of the internal volume "active".

mr steve-i maybe i was unclear, i use the term moderator for all type of sound control of an airguns report. the design i described , and is used by bsa is actually part of a shroud assembly that incorporates a curler felt system with an air stripper to reduce the guns report. now when the shroud is off the gun is big time loud and sharp. with this assembly it is muffled to a very respectable thud. it is not that i don't believe you. all i said was check out the HUUB shroud installed on a bsa rifle and you will see how they addressed the issue. BTW- i have also taken off the shoud entirely and just screwed on donnyfl sumo, shogun and emporer mods directly to barrel. shroud was about the same as the shogun in effectiveness. lastly, when i remove the felt curler assembly the shroud alone goes to a louder echo sound that is readily obvious.
