My Model 36 has always been an accurate rifle.

Last fall I was testing pellets and I set aside a tin of CPHPs that were shooting horribly. They wouldn't hold 1.25" at 25 yards reliably on a calm day. The rifle liked (may still like) H&N FTT's but I don't have any right now. At that time it shot this group with H&N Crowmags at 22 yards.

Which is probably why I still have some of those left. Never the less when it was holding a dime at 22 yards with Crowmags it was not holding 1.25" at the same distance with the CPHPs, the EXACT same tin of CPHPs which I tested today after I got it back from John.

Clearly he made a difference! Mind you that was in a 5 to 15 mph gusty wind from 3 o'clock. So yeah, I'm happy.

Now I just can't wait to get back to pellet testing to see what the rifle will do under better conditions with a pellet it likes. H&N FTTs at 4.52mm are on order! Oh! Yeah!

I replied yesterday because I wanted you to know that I was paying attention. I contacted John to have him tell me what he does because I knew I couldn't remember it all. This is what he replied:

1- first I run a ten shot chrony string and five pull trigger test. 
2- tear the rifle down and inspect for broken or badly worn parts.
3- the bore of the barrel gets cleaned, polished and checked for tight spots. The breech point gets polished so the pellet can make a smooth transition into the rifling.
4-the main tube is cleaned,honed and checked for tight spots. All tight spots and scratches will be honed out.
5- the piston will get three anti friction buttons installed on the rear skirt. The piston stem will also be polished.
6- the trigger group will be torn down. Contact points will be polished. Modifications will be made if needed to give a nice crisp second stage break.
7- piston seal and breech seals will be replaced.
8-a Vortek or Macarri kit will be installed if available.
9- the rifle will be lubed,assembled,broken in and accuracy tested. Changes will be made until I'm happy with it.
A final ten shot chrony and trigger pull test will be done.

With my Model 48 the initial SD was 6.7 fps and after he worked on the gun it was 2.64 fps. Trigger pull before 2.5lb after 1.5lb.

With my Model 36 the initial SD was 6.63 fps and after he worked on the gun it was 2.23 fps. Trigger before 3.75lb after 1.65lb.

I've mislaid the paperwork on the D460 work he did, rest assured it is as good.
