Minimum energy and caliber for coyotes

I'm looking at the feasibility of coyote hunting. I have a Redwolf HP in .22 that makes 49 ft/bs. Will that humanely end a coyote if I keep the distance to 50 yards (if I can even call one in that close)? If so, is there a particular pellet I should tune the gun for that will work best at putting a large pest down? I have the programmer so tuning is very feasible.

Note that although I have an AR, I'd rather not be putting rounds down range that can lethally travel over 600 yards. Such is not a judgement BTW. It's merely my own personal preference.

Thanks and best wishes.

I use a piece of 1x6 pine and place it out to driiferent ranges. If I can accurately shoot a good group and if the pellet passes through the board I know it will penetrate the skull of an animal. I have never shot a coyote or fox or anything with an Airgun because I have plenty of high powered rifles for that but with my .25 marauder I knew a 75yrd head shot wasn’t out of the question.

.22 caliber air arms S510 at 30 yards out .

If I could get them that close and sitting pretty, I'd gladly place a pellet where it counts.

I had a tough enough time with my 6.5 Creedmoor tonight on two coyotes.....got them but I was happy to be using a centerfire.

I did think about getting a 25 caliber Condor for shooting these coyotes on the farms, but I bought the air compressor instead. Sure would be nice to have a Condor.

VERY NICE Glem!!

I'm no fan of light tackle hunting, but it's all about placement.

While I understand your meaning in context to this thread, isn't 'light tackle hunting' what we are all about here doing air gun hunting...?

With the biggest most powerful big bore air rifles rifles we still are less fpe or at best equal to most hand gun powder burners in 9mm 40cal 45 cal. Its a rare Air Rifle that can muster up 500fpe like my.40 cal glock with Hornaday 165 gain @ 1175fps. And most all pb guys would never use that type power 'light tackle" to take down a big deer... But now in Florida we can use .30> cal air rifles to take deer or hog. Which I think is very good and will take a higher degree of skill then blasting them with a .308 pb @ 3000fpe. I'm in the market for a big bore air rifle now. Not to sure about the big hogs, as I've gotten >300lb boars here with my pb.308, pretty sure those big guys would walk off a measly little .30cal 100fpe pellet unless it was placed perfectly. But what do I know, sure someone has done 'light tackle hunting' on a charging grizzly @ 20 paces from a single shot air rifle. Thinking that didn't work out so well for Leonardo in the Revenant, lol....
