Hey guys, I took the dog up into the mountains for a quick overnight camping trip and decided to pull the camera out for a full day of target shooting and Ground Squirrel varminting. We camped in a familiar spot and were blessed with some good warm weather, perfect conditions to enjoy some pest control.
Started the day of right with a nice cup of coffee and proceeded to check zero and have some fun with the quadrant target at 75 yards. The American Air Arms Mini version in .22 is shooting 30 fpe using the 18gr JSB's and gets 32 regulated shots. I have a 4-16x50 Hawke Sidewinder FFP and the Accu-Tac bipod with two sets of leg extensions, perfect setup for serious varmint hunting.
After getting my pack ready Marley and I hiked away from camp down and old mining trail that would ultimately lead us into a giant debris covered field.
Took down the first guy just under 50 yards and was able to capture the action through both my cameras. We had a pretty good breeze but I was finding enough cover to allow me to move in a bit closer than usual. The place wasn't to busy but still enough action to make the trip a worthwhile one, only having to wait about 15 min between shots.
Moving to a few different spots Marley and I found a good location that sat on higher ground under a nice bit of shade, it was getting a bit warm sitting in the sun.
The many debris piles were the perfect habitat for these Ground Squirrels and would find them perched on a few of the fell trees that were all over this location.
After taking down about five or six of these squirrels between the ranges of 40 and 60 yards we decided to move along and head back towards our camp.
Overall Marley and I had a fantastic trip out for a quick overnight camp and was happy that we had some luck on taking down some of these squirrels. Plan to get back out soon and hope to share some more of our Adventures.
