Mini Carbines Rule…

Not a super powerhouse, but it can protect the bird feeders within 20 yards.

I like carbines too!

My favorite carbine in the years around 2005 was the Falcon FN12. I remembered hearing that the BSA Ultra SE is designed by the same guy as the Falcons so I got one before it was discontinued.

The Ultra is a bit more sturdy, heavy and is more modern. There doesn't seem to be a lot of love for BSAs here but the Ultra SE makes a great backyard .177 for me. Though it only makes 10.8 fpe, it is very accurate, reliable and easy to work on (once that anti-tamper was removed).

Only in the PCP world do we call a pistol with a stock a carbine. But I like them too. I have quite a few centerfires, rimfires and airguns that I’ve cut down or had built to the shortest length to get the velocity I need to get the job done. Some of my most fun builds were calculating and testing shorter and shorter barrels then playing with the valve and reg settings to get the most out of where I landed. Not so fun when I went too far.

Mini carbines, not actual carbines… the Atomic XR, Evol Mini, and RAW Micro Hunter are not pistolas… I know that the Atomic was marketed as a pistol too, but only Paul Bunyan could use it as such.

Yes, mine is in .177. I recently came very close to trashing the gun because the ram completely lost all power and I assumed it had gone bad. On a whem, I ordered a Hatsan fill probe and refilled the ram and it is holding pressure. Unfortunately, I filled the ram to about 140 bar or so, and now while more powerful than before, it is a bear to cock. Fun, accurate little yard gun carbine that can do the job when necessary!

I know this is an older thread but I couldn't help but share my mini contraptions

Prod barreled/Gen 1 Mrod contraption. A very loose Prod barrel previously deemed unfit for service but after some aggressive lapping/polishing it provides acceptable accuracy. Somewhere in neighborhood of 70 shots JSB 18gr at 895fps Currently one of my favorite guns to make my spinners spin. I am convinced the Altaros suppressor with break/air stripper improved accuracy. It is a solid 1" or less 50 yard gun

12" barreled .357 Gen 1 Mrod based contraption Unregulated 25-30 shots of 81gr pellets 750-800-750fps bell curve. This one makes me grin every time I smack my 80 yard 4" gong.

Prod in a QB stock tuned for 24 shots of FTT's at 725fps. Here pictured with its big brother, a regulated QB tuned for 30 shots of 32fpe. These 2 are responsible for the vast majority of pest control here at the camp.

Rapid 70 BP 1720T converted to accept magazines Tuned for 40 shots of JSB 10gr @750fps Does not get much use, will likely convert it to a QB stock like the Prod.

@mackeral5, sweet stable of guns, loving the “ Prod barreled/Gen 1 Mrod contraption.” Looks oh so light and deadly.
Thanks L.Leon. Not as light as I would like largely due to scope preference, as pictured it weighs in at a hefty 8lb 2oz. It carries well though.

In between making spinners spin, it has assisted with pest control on occasion. I am a bit rough with it, trying to see how stable POI is day to day after getting bumped around, etc. The combo has earned its place in the stable, plans are to install a "proper" barrel vs one previously deemed unfit for service....Likely in the 14" range so I can drop the reg down a bit more as well as reduce hammer strike. Right now it takes 2kpsi to push 18gr 895fps and thus only getting 60-70 shots out of a 350cc tank. Previous testing has shown that by simply dropping down to the 840's efficiency significantly improves and shot count increases to somewhere >100 shots....The hope is with a 14" barrel I can maintain the 895-900fps velocity and get shot count back up to somewhere around 100.
