Meisterkugeln’s through HW30k

Curious what everyone thinks...

I purchased some RWS Meisterkugeln Pro Line pellets for my HW 30 K springer. When they arrived, I noticed they were the 7.0 grain PISTOL version.

Aside from the lighter weight (as compared to the Meisterkugeln “rifle” pellets, is there any reason I could not / should not run these through my rifle?

The weight should not be an issue @ 7 grains. Many .177 pellets are this weigh, and I’ve had absolutely no problems with light pellets before.

You're good. JSB's best for that gun are only 7.33gr so don't worry .

I had a R7(same gun) that liked the 7.3 JSB's so that's all i used. 7gr is about as lite a lead pellet you'll find. Every springer is different. You just gotta try a bunch til you find what it likes.

My guess is that you won't find pellets much lighter than 7 grains. But if you do, why risk damaging your piston seal with such light pellets? With too light a pellet, your piston can strike the end of the compression chamber and damage the seal on the piston. Not worth the risk IMHO.

Well, since I don’t know of anything accurate that is less than 7gr, I would say 7gr There may be a rare exception but that tends to be the bottom end of the range in my experience. Notable examples are the two already mentioned (7gr Meisters, 7.3gr JSB). Another that comes to mind is the RWS Basics. Seldom does a wadcutter flirt with MoA on my 25 yard target but these have done so from multiple rif. Lastly, also try the Air Arms Falcons which are a 7.3gr dome similar to the JSB…made by JSB with different dies.



In a more general sense, the best way to find the most suitable weight for a springer is to chrony a range of weights and calculate their FPE. What you’ll find is that both the lightest and heaviest will produce lower energy than those somewhere in the middle. Those in the middle are allowing the powerplant to work at its most efficient, minimizing piston rebound and so forth. Many have noted they almost always get the best groups from a pellet that delivers near peak energy, perhaps logically following from the reduction of harmonic vibration.

Nearly all match pellets shoot fantastic through it. I’ve tried H&N Hobbys and H&N Meisterkugeln’s with consistent 1/2” grouping at 25 yards. And MOST domes do well.

Only asking about weight, as I purchased a sample kit from H&N and saw they had the Field Target Trophy Green pellets in the pack, and those weigh in at a miniscule 5.56 grains.

I ran 10-12 through the rifle and they shot great. Very good actually, but when I noticed the extremely light weight, I stopped shooting them.

3 of my HW30s love the 7.9gr Crosmans in the bulk box (1250count) and 2 prefer the JSB's in 7.3gr and my oldest gun (early 70's) shoots the 8.4 JSB best even though it only shoots @ 550 fps. Every gun is different. Try as many different pellets that you can get your hands on.

Trust me - I’ve tested a large amount of pellets through the rifle checking for the ideal match. The problem is - it seems to love nearly everything. ?

I am in the JSB 7.33 camp. While my 30 shoots all pellets well the 7,33 grain JSB pellets are off the charts accurate. It's like they were mad for the HW30.

I've done very well with the JSB Exact RS (7.33) and the JSB Exact (8.44) at 50+ yards. Typically, I can move my SWFA up 4 mil and it's dead on at 50 with the 8.44's after setting my crosshairs at 25.

50 yards for my HW30 is a pretty good spit. But she'll drop quarter groups with little effort. I'm still amazed at the consistency of the rifle, and I'm still running it stock. A portion of me wants to drop a tinbum in it, but it's running so good right now that I don't want to mess with it.

Just read an article on the HW97 done by HAM (Hard Air Magazine).

They ran Gamo Raptor Platinums through the gun with no problems....

They ran 4.7 grain pellets through a 97.

I’m no longer concerned about using sub 7’s in my hw30.

Don't put a kit in it antil the spring breaks. Yours is fine so it won't improve a thing.
