I've been playing around with different regulator pressures and ammo. My 600mm barrel seems to like these the best:
The weather has been totally nasty here, so I have only had my Taipan out with this final valve design with my reg set to right under 160bar. At this pressure - using a heavier spring and acetyl spring tensioner, I have maxed out the 28.5gr NSAs at 1002FPS (~63.5FPE) with the 600mm barrel. I'm just not seeing stellar the accuracy with anything above 25gr with that barrel though. I had a sub-dime size 5 shot group at 102 meters with the FX Hybrids which blew my mind!!!
Efficiency - now that I've blown right past my original goal for 55FPE and have figured out what this thing likes to eat (ammo-wise), I'm starting to crank the regulator way down to find the set point that can launch the FX Hybrids at 990fps with some headroom to spare. This is where it gets real interesting to me, the magic number is 127bar (1010FPS). I was certain that I would need another 10 bar to get there, but nope!
I turned the hammer down a little ways with my lighter spring, and I got it to settle right at 990FPS for the FX ammo (and at a near perfect 966 with the H&Ns).
Hoping to find time soon to begin testing with my 700mm barrel, but I want this thing to stay as short as possible. I also need to test the 500mm FX barrel with this new adapter design. The projectile seating depth was way off with the prototype adapter that I was using, so hopefully it will group better with this new one that eliminates the problem
- 22gr FX Hybrid Slugs (990 or under)
- 25gr H&N Slug HP (any speed under 970FPS)
- 24.8gr NSAs (930-940)
