Measuring Caliper Recommendations

"intenseaty22"I’m looking to buy a measuring Caliper and would appreciate y’all pointing me in the right direction. Mercy.
Been a machinist for almost 40 years. I prefer dial calipers. Much easier to get an exact, precise measurement.

I own four 6", one 12" and one 18" caliper and they're all dial.

If you want the absolute best get a set of these. http://www.penntoolco.com/etalon-dial-calipers/
I use my 30-year-old Etalon caliper daily at work and after all those years they're still accurate to less than half of a thousandth of an inch.

If you're just looking to measure c-to-c of groups on paper there are plenty of options priced from $25 on up that'll work just fine :)

So what are you planning on using them for?

"intenseaty22"Don’t really need NASA quality, just reliable enough and not falling apart.
Sounds like a digital caliper will work best for what you want to do. Accurate enough and you'll be able to switch back and forth between inch and metric. Plus you won't be as worried about scratching or misplacing a $20 tool. Sorry for going all NASA LoL.

Hope this helps and show them off when you get them :)

Caliper arrived today. Thank you all for all the tips. I used it right away to figure out the size of an O-ring for my Omega tank. An O-ring being a squishy thing, it made for a challenging subject, but between the caliper and a wee bit of common sense, I got the right measurement and ordered some spare O-rings for my tank. So...so far, so good. Thanks again.
