I don't really know where to put this but I'm curious if I can just make a MDF Stock. It's easy to mold last I checked, but I don't know if it'll work, which is why I'm curious. While MDF is easy to shape you can't count on it to hold screws that are too shallow(most sling mounts ect). Also you will have to cover it with many layers polyurethane or similar hard curing sealant. MDF is just sawdust and glue pressed into a board and will absorb moisture. Also it's very soft as far as dings dents scrapes and chips are concerned. If you are however making a master blank to make more stocks from it would be great.

One other consideration-MDF is heavier than all but the densest piece of lumber for it's bulk. It does machine very smoothly however.
