Marking Adjustable Objective

I need to mark my ranges on my A/O on my scope. I use a fine pencil but it rubs off. I used masking tape once. It looked pretty lousy and my marks rub off. Anyone know of a good way to mark the A/O ranges without damaging the scope finish but lasts awhile? Thanks, Jim

A sharpie in silver met. works it last for quite awhile.

 narrow strip of masking or white duct tape. Mark with a superfine sharpie. Then put a layer of clear packing tape over it. The EFR Leupold is a bit of a challenge because it goes 2 rotations.

thanks for the replies. I think for now I will try the shipping tape over white tape. I don't want anything permanent as of yet. I am not 100% sure I will keep this scope on my rifle so I don't want to mark it up to much.

I've had good luck with pin-striping tape (auto detail tape, etc-seems to have many names). It comes in various thicknesses and colors and can written on quite easily with a simple ball point pen. I bought a roll of light green at the local Napa auto parts for a few bucks. I saw it while I was standing in line and realized it would be perfect. I've done multiple scopes and more than half of the roll is left. I might have to put some clear packing tape over it for water protection after reading the above.

A simple dot of nail polish works great. Use different colors for different range settings. I go from dark to light.
If you ever want the marks removed just pick them off with your fingernail or steal some nail polish remover from your wife.
