Events March 23rd ASC FT Match

Good morning everyone,

ASC will have our next FT match on Saturday March 23, 2024 (the 4th Saturday of the month) starting at 9:00am. This match will be a special match that is a practice for the Cajun Classic GP in April. We will have a 60 shot rifle match using 2 targets per lane in the morning, and then a 60 shot pistol match starting in the afternoon soon after the rifle match. There will be offhand and kneeling lanes, and the Troyer difficulty will be high. We will serve sandwiches for lunch. The only reason I will cancel the match is if it is storming (drizzle doesn’t count). We had 30 shooters at the February match, so come out for some friendly competition and get tuned up for the Cajuns.

Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 8:45. Rifle match to start at 9:00am.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

ASC Members $5, non-Members $10

Arlington Sportsman’s Club is located at: 11500 County Road 525, Mansfield, TX 76063(Also called Lillian Road)
Thanks,

Looking forward to a great couple of matches this Saturday starting at 9:00am. First is a 60-shot rifle match that has a 33T difficulty rating, followed by a 60-shot pistol match that is 35.5T. For added enjoyment, there will be two standing lanes in both matches, and the rifle will have a bonus kneeling lane. Adaptive class shooters can file their complaints with the Assistant to the Match Director.
Since this will be a long day of shooting, please bring water and snacks. We'll have water, sodas, and sandwiches too. Match fees are same as always, $5 for ASC members, and $10 for non-members.

It feels like we are almost at the point where we can turn pistol into a division instead of a separate match. It would be shot on the rifle course at the same time as the rifle match. No, you can't shoot rifle and pistol in the same match, just like you can't shoot Hunter and WFTF in the same match. You gotta pick your poison.

Here's what it would look like:

1. Air pistols only. The maximum caliber is 0.25.
2. Muzzle energy limited to 20 foot-pounds.
3. Barrel length is limited to 15 inches not including any attachments to the muzzle (e.g. moderator, or flip compensator). A wooden or other barrel-friendly dowel will be used to determine the length of the barrel, as measured from the tip of the barrel or muzzle attachment to the breech-face.
4. Fore end depth is limited to a maximum of 3 inches, measured from the center of the barrel to the lowest part of the gun forward of the trigger guard.
5. Attached cylinders at the rear of the Pistol are not allowed.
6. Overall length including any attachments must not exceed 25 inches.
7. No shooting jackets, slings, harnesses, or other bodily supports. Clothing or shooting gloves worn by the shooter must not restrict hand or body movement.
8. No tripods.
9. Kneepads may not exceed 1 inch in thickness. The intent is to allow comfort, and not an extra form of support.
10. Sandbags, knee risers or butt stocks are not allowed.
11. Scope maximum magnification of 16x. Variable scopes of greater than 16X must not be turned to greater than 16X or the nearest lower factory marking on the scope. No turret adjustment allowed during the match (no clicking.)
12. Any form of seat without back or arms support may be used. Monopods, shooting sticks, or bipods may be used, with the same restrictions as described in the Hunter Division Rules.

13. Time limits may be enforced.
14. Any shooting position is allowed so long as the pistol is fully supported by the competitor. Hangy tanks are allowed but cannot contact the ground or shooter’s anatomy while shooting.
15. Distance 10-55 yards
16. Kill zones sizes shall be 3/8” to 2” in diameter.
17. Forced Offhand (Standing) Shots: Pistol is held solely by the hands, and may not contact the arms, body, or any other kind of support.
18. Forced Kneeling Shots: Pistol will be held solely in the hands using the standard kneeling position under the Forced Position Rules.
19. Eyecup contact with the face is permitted.

There. I have once again fixed field target with 100% agreement from everyone. And I will never have to set up a pistol match on top of a rifle match ever again.

The course is all set up and ready for you shooters tomorrow morning. 60-shot Rifle match is first followed by sandwiches and drinks for lunch, and then a 60-shot pistol match in the afternoon. We will be using timers to help everyone move along while shooting and also please don’t dilly dally between lanes.
