Making a Marauder Gun stock with a Gemini Carver

About a year ago I inquired about having a custom stock for my Marauder made but got the brush off by a stock maker. However, after seeing Plinker's Wildcat stock thread, it got me motivated to build a stock myself. Found this duplicator on E-bay and here are my results so far. It is not quite finished but I will add photos as they come. There is a learning curve and it might take some practice to become proficient. I plan on taking a 2 week Stockbuilding class in June at the Trinidad GunSmith College up in Colorado. I have two Marauders so I do plan on making another.
On the prototype I thinned the pistol grip and forearm so it wasn't so "Beefy". I also removed the "wings" of the forearm and beveled the stock towards the bottom side. I tapered the bottom plane upwards again to removed excess wood. I have small hands and this felt so much better to hold. I bought a Cherry wood slab about 8 months ago to keep me moving forward on this project. I should be able to get another stock out of it. I am very lucky to have a wood supplier in town.
After using the duplicator, the real work began with Rasp files and lots of sand paper. I made several sanding blocks from scrap wood but also cut a few different size dowel rod and wrapped the sand paper around them. Really helped out around the barrel channel and pistol grip. I made one big mistake by not allowing enough room for the Comb but I think it will be OK for me. This is my first attempt so I was quite pleased that the action actually fit on the first go around. May have to do some more adjustments once I shoot it. Joe or Tom, any help or suggestions finishing would be welcome.

"NMshooter"Fit the butt pad and had to try it out yesterday and it felt great, so don't think I will need a comb. Should start finishing this weekend. Brownell's linseed oil should arrive tomorrow!

Good to hear it fits well . I like oil finishes, they look good and are easy to touch up if scratched while hunting or whatever . Looking forward to the finished stock .

I need to do something about the stock on my career dragon slayer . The LOP is about 2" too short for me .

I went with a Boiled linseed oil finish. I bought some stain but the test wood was too dark. I didn't really want to lose the color of the wood but I did want "some" color. Saw a U-tube comparing the different oil finishes and the Boiled Linseed had the riched color enhancement.
I sanded the stock down to a 400 grit finish. I left the final sanding saw dust on the stock and applied the boiled Linseed Oil lightly and then sanded again with the oil on the stock. I then rubbed the stock with my hand to drive the oil-sawdust mix into the pores of the wood. It is recommended to rub the area until the wood gets warm. It is recommended to wait 5-7 days between coats. I am hoping that living in the dry southwest will shorten this wait. Can you beleive it, it rained today, never rains! 
Here is after my first coat. I really like the looks of Cherry wood and I am quite pleased with the looks. Very different!
