Well... I was making these parts for a friend and noticed just HOW MUCH the chip pile was for these 3 little parts. Not having a CNC lathe, it takes TIME to make this pile o chips...😉

Anyway , it's great to be able to make stuff...

Many years ago in the job shop I worked in, we had a job for an aircraft manufacturer that was magnesium. I saved the chips. At our after hours Christmas party that year, after the owner went home, I took a 5 gallon pail of chips in the parking lot and squirted a good dose of acetone in the bucket hoping it would “light up”. It didn’t. I was disappointed. A couple minutes later I took a look out side and the 5 gallon pail looked like a brilliant white volcano, and brilliant bright just like magnesium is supposed to be. Very impressive.

Fun!!
A Tannerite equivalent is just aluminum powder and an oxidizer like ammonium nitrate. When mixed in the right ratio, it will explode with a sharp impact.

I saved swarf for a while but never melted it into useable form so goes in the trash or recycle ...

I know too much and I don't wanna leave that info here for somebody to get hurt but let's say metals can be mixed and changed for different impact sensitivity
