Magpul Sling Modification For The FX Maverick w/Parts List

Some time ago, I asked how people were rigging a sling for the FX Maverick. Well, I made some modifications to my Maverick VP that I wanted to share since some are interested in how I did it.

So in my first implementation, I wanted to add a sling to the Maverick VP without doing any permanent modifications to the airgun, and this is what I came up with:

I used a spring hook clasp on the front pic rail and I repurposed the buttstock adjustment screw hole, and added a Magpul connector in the rear. Unfortunately, the front clasp could make a lot of clanging noise if there was the least bit of slack on the sling. I also wasn't certain of the rear MagPul connection strength, since I only had a few threads engaged in the connection.

In my final sling modification, I upgraded the system to be Magpul all the way around. I drilled a hole in the frame in the rear, and added a female Magpul connector up higher on the frame than the first attempt, and this prevents the gun from wanting to tip over. I also added a Magpul pic rail adapter to the left front pic rail mount. I secured all screws with loctite red for a permanent fit and piece of mind that I will never drop my gun! 😀

Here is the Amazon parts list of what I used for the sling modification:
  • 2 Magpul MAG540 QD Sling Swivels: $28.40
  • 1 Magpul MAG337 RSA QD Rail Sling: $26.43
  • 1 QD Swivel Stud 1: $11.99
  • 2 Point Gun Sling: $6.99
  • 2 Piece Should Pad: $13.99
I am extremely happy with this implementation! It's fantastic to be able to glass trees for squirrels on a moments notice! The low ready and high ready switchable airgun positions are perfect for traversing through thick woodlands, without a tree branch snatching your rifle off of your shoulder!

I highly recommend this mod for any Maverick owner that hunts on public lands.

Nice job. I have an FX Wildcat and attached their MAG502 sling attachment on my picatinny rail under the scope. It’s positioned so the rifle is just about balanced horizontal. I then use a single point sling and hang it on my right side. There’s a sleeve that pulls down to cover the quick connect hook so the scope or rifle doesn’t get scratched. I generally have a hand on the rifle as I’m walking so as to keep from banging the muzzle into something.
The Wildcat does not have a front sling swivel or rear so a two point conventional sling isn’t applicable. I could add one but I generally don’t modify my guns as I never hang on to anything and modifications might prevent a sale. I could see a cross body sling like the OP’s working well. I hate using slings over one shoulder because it’s very easy to slide off and Murphy’s law dictates that it will then fall muzle first.
