Magnum Springer Scope

Guys the question I get asked a LOT by folks that watch my videos is what scope would you recommend for True Magnum Springer rifles that won't break the bank . 
Let's hear you guys ideas if you don't mind ?

Hey Joe, my vote goes to the Swfa. A 10x sf MD sit on my rws 54 .22 and it's a match made in airgun Heven. +2500 jsb 15.9 down range and sometimes I like to "click". After installing scope stops returning to zero is a breeze. Great glass @ 100+ yardage and built like a tank.

Hard to go wrong with a Leupold 3x9 EFR, no mildots though. I love the AMX reticle on the new Hawke air max 4-12 40, got one as a replacement. Not that confident about Hawke since the scope it replaced barfed after less than tin of pellets on an R9. My buddy has had the Leupold on his RWS 54 for years with no issues.

John I agree with you 100%! The only issue I'm facing our guys that are looking for scopes for the 100 to $150 range.

Actually my lowly Leapers 3-9 32 has lived on my R9 and a BSA Lightning. I have thousands of rounds on it and paid less than $50 back in 2010. I think it's back in their lineup now, was missing for a while. Here it is on my R9. I will say the zero seems to wander, but I think that may just be my hold varying between sessions.

Utg 4-16x40 ao eztap . $109 at PA would be very hard to beat at the $100)150 range.

I had a Gamo IGT Magnum whose recoil was so bad that it caused the windage dial to rotate with every shot on the scope that came with it. I put a Nikon 3-9 X 40 Prostaff EFR ($189) on instead and it stood up fine. Moved to PCP's and sold the Gamo so the scope is just sitting in the box now. Thinking about selling it but it's such great glass...

My choice: Hatsan 125 TH Vortex. 22 => Sportsmatch DM60 Dampa + Leapers 4X32@35 Yds

I was told by Leupold that any of their scopes would stand up to a magnum springer. Mueller and Bushnell both told me they don't rate their scopes for air guns but warranty them if they fail. The Mueller on my 48 has held up fine, however I will be replacing it with a Bushnell. I just installed a Bushnell on my 34 yesterday, time will tell.

I can say my 48 killed a Konus Pro in pretty short order. IMO for what it cost there are scopes with better glass for less money.

I fitted a Sportsmatch Dampa Mount to my magnum and use a Centerpoint 4x16x40 scope. Absolutely no problems with this combination.

I have used a Hawke eclipes 6x24 on my rws model 48 I believe it could be considered a magnum as it shoots .177 8gr pellets over 1100fps. The scope has held up good. I havs transferred that scope to a few rifles and like a timex it keep on tickin

Joe I read somewhere that the less moving parts in a scope suits the magnums better. I bought two UTG 4*32 scopes in anticipation on getting my 56 but the shop stuffed up the order on the 56.. Put one of the 4*32s on my scope killing Benjamin Trail 177 and for the last month it’s been holding up well. It’s killed scopes in the first week sometimes. Poi wandered initially but a few turns back and forth of the turrets fixed that. Turrets are hard to move but you get used to them.

I have probably been very unlucky but the Sportsmatch dampa mount and the Bullseye ZR mount have not been accurate on any of my rifles. Hope this helps.

I'm with Hawkeye... the Nikon 3x9 EFR Prostaff is superb and I have an SWFA 12X on another gun and the Nikon is soo close in clarity. Power and reticle being the difference. The Nikon is MOA but I run the dials up and down in the field all the time and always return to perfect zero.

I have an older Japanese Bushnell 3x10x40 AO on my R9. It is a sport view and has been on that R9 since I bought it new from mac1 in the mid to late eighties. Still bright and clear and holds zero well. And mechanically sound with reticle moving with each click.

Of course it helps if a scope has etched glass reticles. And I spend too much money on scopes to be much help. I do have one bug buster scope but not used it much and going to sell it on one of my LGRs.

I gotta pick the Bushnell AR 3-9x40 

I have recently learned that all this "artillery hold" bullpoop is probably the cause of a good percentage of trashed scopes on magnum springers. Hold the dang gun firmer (with some authority) and it won't hammer the scope so bad.
I learned this by shooting with a busted reticle. Hold the gun loose and the reticle would flop all over the place. Hold it more firmly and the reticle only shook a tiny bit.

I have used the Hammers 3-9x40 from Amazon (~70.00) on a scope eating Trail .22 with great success. The gun ate scopes like popcorn. When the gun could not eat the hammers scope, it ended up eating itself. That scope lives on, hopping from gun to gun like a little slut. Happyy to hop on, hold.on and stay on target.

I’ve busted many and currently have the 10x50 UTG etched glass mounted with a Bullseye ZR mount to my gamo magnum and it has been dead on for a few thousand rounds ?!!
