I purchase a MagnetoSpeed Sporter Chonograph as an upgrade to my shoot through unit. Just found out that it’s not design for Airguns. The rep at MagnetoSpeed did say for larger pellet .25-.30 cal it’s possible if the sensitivity is set at high 2. Before I try it, has anyone on the forum own or tested this unit on Airguns.

I have the Magnetospeed "V3 Ballistic Chronograph" with Firmware version 2.1.03. I assume it is different from the "Sporter" model you wrote about, but cannot say for sure..
I was able to set unit "Sensitivity" to "11" and easily chrono both .22 and .25 caliber PCP guns with pellets raging from 18 grains on up. If I recall correctly, the unit was a bit hit or miss with my .17 spring guns.
I've used the unit a few times in the last few weeks after a two year hiatus, and am re-discovering how much I like the unit. Specifically, I don't have to mess with sunscreens, adequate lighting, and barrel to sensor alignment issues.

The V3 is what I should of gotten. The rep said it’s more design to be used on Airguns. I opt for the Sporter since It was less then half the price of a V3. MagnetoSpeed offers a trade up program and will credit me $140 if I want to upgrade. If changing the sensitivity doesn’t work on the Sporter model than I’ll have to take a loss and trade this one in.

I have the V3 as well and have the same results as Mark. The unit works fine with my .177 Marauder. I have not tried it with a springer.

I just left the Magnetospeed website and found my V3 and the Sporter are in fact different.
I checked the FAQ and discovered two other things new to me regarding the Sporter. Set your sensitivity to Hi 1 and make sure pellet path is .125 to .25" above the bayonet deck. I have been aligning my bayonet deck to the bottom of the barrel, and it looks like you can get away with that with an Air Rifle and my model of chronograph. It does not look like you can have the greater spacing with the Sporter.

I tried removing the shroud and just mounting it to the barrel. No luck with the setting at reg and high 1. I’ll try it with high 2 later.

Tested the Sporter model with the sensitivity on High 2. No reading using .30 cal pellets that normally goes 870 fps. Get the V3 model if you’re planning to use it on an Airgun.
