Napier Pellet Lube is by far the absolute best pellet lube in the whole world if used properly in conjunction with weighed pellets! Manufacturers use different kinds of things on pellets to facilitate the manufacturing process and to prevent the pellets clumping together. Things like graphite, waxes, paraffin, etc...it needs to be washed off or it leads to many adverse affects. I have proved Napiers' performance in side by side tests in several air rifles including my springers, my Sumatra's, and my .25 Wildcat and .25 Streamline rifles.
I found that the easiest way to clean pellets is to put a can's worth in a small plastic pail and add just enough Acetone to cover them, swirl them around gently a few times, and then pour through a screen strainer. I then clean them a second time with Denatured Alcohol which leaves no residue behind and pour them through a strainer again, then onto an old soft towel where I roll them back and forth to remove the excess alcohol. I then spread them out in a large glass dish to dry...the alcohol evaporates almost immediately.
Once their dry, I weigh all my pellets on a Lyman Grain Scale to within 1/10th of a grain, and separate them into piles that weigh the same. Finally, I put groups of pellets that all weigh the same in a glass dish and spray just a couple light shots of Napier on them, then into a clean can labeled with their correct size. This will reduce your group sizes by at least 50% and completely eliminate flyers from your groups! Notice I said nothing about head size...I have found in my experiments with .25 caliber pellets that head size has no bearing on accuracy whatsoever...what does matter is pellet weight!
Pellets that all weigh exactly the same are going to go to the same place on the target providing you do your part. I will show you a few pictures below of weighing JSB "33.95 grain" pellets...their actual weights run from 32.8 grains all the way up to 34.9 grains! With some other oddballs thrown in for good measure! I think this is a travesty on the part of JSB if not downright false advertising, because they have the technology to separate pellets according to their true weight and could do so if they wanted to. I could even tell you which ones shoot the best out of all the various weights... but it would probably be better to figure that out for yourself because your results may vary.
Try what I am telling you and you will see the good results for yourself...seeing is believing. When you see five pellets go exactly into one tiny hole at 50 yards you will be a believer!
P.S. I just got 16 more cans of the 34 Heavy's from Pyramyd yesterday... so its time for me to weigh some more pellets!
