I'm noticing that occasionally a pellet will go into my RAW 1000X less smoothly using the magazine and if I'm not mistaken the resulting shot will be a flyer. Is the magazine the cause of this or is it just a random odd pellet? Is this the reason why most dedicated benchrest rifles are not magazine fed?

Two issues. In some cases, the cause is a bad pellet, typically a distorted skirt. Or, it can be the magazine. I had one magazine for my Marauder which had a plastic flange around the lip of the rotator; no doubt a casting flaw. I fixed it with the aid of an X-Acto knife.

Is it on the same spot in the mag? If yes, its likely something with the mag. If it's random, its the pellets. Are you sorting and gauging?

I don't know if it happens on the same spot as I didn't pay that close attention but I will in the future. I have 2 mags and will pay attention to that as well. No, I'm not sorting or gauging the pellets at this point. That's also on my to do list. I'll probably start with simple sorting based on pellet weight and work up to gauging when I have the necessary equipment. So many things to do!
