MAFTA First Match ....... Thanks!

I just wanted to do a little write up about the even I went to this weekend.

A little back story...... While this isn't my first ft match, the last match was 10 years go with an AA EV-2. Same FT group that I shot with all those years ago, but of course some of the members have changed. But it was cool to show a picture of my son and myself shooting a lane, and a few members remembering and thinking it was cool. I was in the cities with my family for the match as well as my wife's birthday. My wife was extremely understanding and very much ok with me going to the shoot and told me to go have fun.

So now onto the shoot......

The Oakdale gun club is a great looking club! What a set up they have out there, as well as a great FT range! The guys there were all very welcoming and very nice. I did feel a little out of place right away, but that quickly went away. Everyone was super helpful and more than willing to put up with a new shooter such as myself. I squaded up with John and I want to say Kevin ( but I suck at names and forgot already ). Being a little intimidated by the Styer and custom Red Wolf I was shooting with, as it made my USFT look like the old tech that it is! But John and Kevin were shooting WFTF and I was shooting Hunter. So different classes and it was fun to see how the two differ, and the different approaches that John and Kevin took when shooting.

Over all I believe there was only one or two stages that I only got 2 hits on, the darn standing stage really kicked my butt! Then after a few stages I was setting down my bipod ( ended up using my Fat Boy tripod with one leg stowed ), I was using a 3D printed yoke that ended up breaking 4 stages in. So having to hold that together on my pod, made things a bit more interesting but I was able to make it work.

I don't think I did to bad but nothing great either. Was great seeing @Uglyjohn and others from the forums here. And if anyone is in the area looking for somewhere to shoot look these guys up!

Didn't get many pictures as I was more focused on shooting .... but I did get two.

If you want John, go ahead and post a picture of the score sheet that I had. I know it isn't amazing or anything like that, but it will add to the thread :D

So not horrible, but not good either. The standing stage kicked my butt. Started I believe on lane 5, and lane 6 was the standing.

Hey Chris it was great to finally meet you and it sounds like you had a good time at Saturday’s match. It seems like you’ve achieved a good balance between recreational time for dad and fun time for the family. Very commendable! You are certainly welcome to attend any future monthly matches should the opportunity arise. Oh, the 3rd member of your squad was Neil Younggren. Uj

Agreed Croxton! The lanes were very well maintained and kept the targets in clear view. All while still playing with the shadows on some of the targets.

Then after the match the guys grabbed chainsaws and cut down some problem trees that were dead, and cleaned up some overhangs. Really impressive to be honest.

I envy that you guys have the gun range that close to you.

So, after that very respectable first match in ten years score of 78% +, is the USFT still for sale? 😁
Yeah sadly. I just am not comfortable shooting it. I can shoot it if needed, but still don't feel comfortable doing so.

So you know it will shoot ;) All the missed shots I called after the trigger pull. I knew they would miss from a flinch or just my crappy shooting.
