M3 barrel shroud, on or off ?

I see pics of fx M3's and other impacts set up without barrel shroud. Why? less weight on barrel?

If you take the shroud off, it’s easier to use an external carbon fiber tube as a barrel stiffener or tensioner. To really get the benefits of a carbon fiber tube used this way, in place of the shroud, you also need one around the barrel itself. On my Impact,I have the barrel, a super tight fitting steel/carbon liner, the aluminum support and a carbon fiber liner over it. They are all super tightly fit together so they act as a single unit with no vibration. You can also just use the carbon fiber tube around the barrel and still use the shroud. I like to tinker and compare accuracy so I go back and forth and test them often. Without the shroud, it’s not quite as quiet though.

Would be interesting to see a variant of the Crown's superlight shroud system on the impact. Keep the full length steel barrel housing as-is, but thread the front barrel support block so the shroud could attach directly to the "receiver" and add stiffness. Throw a few spacers inside the shroud so it touches in more places than just the front and back.
