As a replacement for a defective scope, Crosman sent me one that you can dial in the yardard by turning the focal mechanism on the front of the scope. It ranges from 5 yards to infinity. Only problem is that it is very tight and hard to dial in the lower distances. Tried putting it to 5 yards and pulled the scope off the dovetail rails. Is it OK to lubricate the distance dial and, if so, with what and how much? Thanks.

Ok first if your scope has good mounts you should not be able to "pull" it off the rail? I would degrease the rail and the mounts. As for your problem adjusting the AO on the front of the scope. You can get one of these in this link. You get two and they seem to work fine but only time will let me know how they hold up since I just installed one on a scope.

Its been my experience many scopes tend to be very stiff to turn the various adjustment dials, usually working them back an forth a number of times to break them in usually does the trick to loosen things up a bit. If it doesn't loosen up then I would call Crosman and inquire about a replacement.

Thanks guys. I will call them because they also sent mounts for the dovetail slot on the Optimus and I really have to muscle all the screws down for the scope to stay in place. After shooting, the screws loosen a bit and I have to start all over again. Are there more stable mounts they could send me?

I had this problem with a scope of mine. The manufacturer told me to use a hair dryer to loosen up the grease and then turn it back and forth until it feels as loose as needed.

Spoke with Crosman and was told to use silicone grease. Also, a new twist to the saga with Crosman. They said they would refund the cost of the gun if I sent it back to them. It may be a good idea. I like the Optimus but I find it heavy and difficult to cock. I don't know if any other rifle would be much lighter or easier to use. Maybe you can help on this. I tried a Gamo once: perfect out of the box but a monster to cock. Wore me out. Haven't tried any other yet. i know people like the RWS but it's much too pricey.

If you want easy to cock, you need to go with a PCP or co2 gun. My PCP guns are all very easy to cock. A baby female rabbit with a degenerative brittle bone disease could cock my air guns.
