Lubricant question.

I was doing some research a while back for grease on an AR15. The Red-n-tacky contains Lithium which over time, I believe can react with aluminum in a bad way. Considering the amount of aluminum in a modern airgun, I'd avoid red and tacky for this application. Just my 2 cents.

Most industrial greases I've seen contain lithium. I finally broke down and but the Lucasoil gun lube for my other applications at $10 for an ounce (talk about highway robbery), but I couldn't find a grease without lithium.

If you have access to aircraft grease, those don't have lithium and you guessed it, work great on aluminum parts because airplanes have so much aluminum.

I wish it were simpler

Nihuggin, Could you please elaborate? What application is better lubed with graphite? For several decades tuned Springer's have been lubed with molybdenum disulfide and moly containing greases. "Spring tar" or "black tar* has been used for spring dampening (these are heavy greases). Tune in a tube (a red tacky grease) is a successful substitute for the "tars". I'm curious if you have a graphite grease that serves well there or were you thinking about a different application?

I just tuned and soft bedded this rifle. $75 RS2.. used Honda 60 moly. I shoots smooth quite and surprisingly very accurate. Son is a Honda tech gave me more moly

than I'll ever use.

Shooters used to puff some graphite into the chamber to lube the seal instead of silicone chamber oil. Don't pack your chamber with it!

Better than tune in a tube is installing tighter fitting spring guides and only applying lubricants judicially . More consistent.
