Lubeing pellets

I experimented with lubing pellets using Frog Lube for my FX Indy .22 (ST barrel, obviously), and found slight (perhaps a measurement error) degradation of precision with lead pellets at 25 yards, and very strong degradation with lead-free pellets.
Then I did some googling and found quite a few posts on other forums where it seems the consensus is against lubing pellets for FX ST barrels (Yrrah had done some research there, I believe).

As soon as I get a bit of time, I'll start another thread describing my findings. For now - I'm out of lubing business.

I tested today lubing vs not lubing vs washing and lubing in my .25 wildcat. Jsb right out the tin where the worst. I tested napier and abu garcia silicote reel oil just lubed and washed then lubed. I shot 40 rounds of each and thoroughly cleaned the barrel between each set. The washed then lubed pellets where the best and although the napier worked well, the abu garcia hands down had the tightest most consistent group's. Everyone has different results when it comes to lubing. Thats why if someone says not to lube you really need to test it for yourself. In my fx wildcat unlubed pellets gives me 2-3 inch groups at 65 yds.the pellets that I wash and lube give me 3/8- 1 inch group's at 65yds.

I used to lube all my pellets with the mix that Tom Gaylord used. The little batch I mixed up years ago has lasted forever and seemed to do a good job accuracy wise in all my pcp's. This summer I got a Talon Condor in .22 cal. tuned by Talon Tunes that came with a test group card at 35 yard that was one hole. I decided to try a few drops of FP 10 in a sandwich bag and rolled them around in the bag to coat the pellets. I proceeded to zero the rifle and shoot groups and could not get groups under 2 to 3 inches at 35 yards. I did not think the lube was the problem at first and started to look at all the usual things like moderator clipping and loose scope mounts and screws. I decided to try some unlubed pellets and accuracy was great. For one thing I think I put too much lube on the pellets but for my rifle it did not like the FP-10. If I were to try lube again I think I would go back to the Tom Gaylord mix. I think it was called Whiscombe Honey but I forget the ingredients. I think the mix can be found on the Pyramyd Air videos.

I clean the pellets first. I work them through my fingers in hot soapy water then rinse. Then again in rubbing alcohol. Dry on paper towels then into my to toaster oven 350º for 5 min to completely dry them. Once cooled into a ziplock bag . I put 4 to 5 drops halfway down into the bag zip it up and spread the lube out a little before sliding the pellets through it. Keep working them around turning the bag over and then back into the tin. I'm going to test soaking the pellets and really giving them a good scrubbing to see how clean I can get them and how they perform.
