Low fps on a refurb

Well apparently one little washer behind the top hat and jsb 8.4s go from 660 to 760 (also removed a snug piston sleeve so that might have had effect, I should know better then to change more then one variable at a time but in a hurry to settle before we take off camping)... I’m the type that learns from doing AND studying. Not JUST studying or JUST doing when it comes to topics that I have a passion for. I’d hate to get on a forum and tell people to do this or that based off of reading then only find out that it’s incorrect, so I do like to put things into practice. Having said that... after my pelgun oil that I used, against my book lernin’, got done breaking the sound barrier over 1100fps and again dieseled at about 900fps... we settled around 760. I’ll be gone Friday Saturday and Sunday for non stop shooting so we’ll see if I did any damages from the dieseling.

Well the accuracy is alright so far. I’ve got decent groups at 50 yards even. I’ll need more practice for sure. My hold and follow through are starting to improve I think. My average 50 yard group has been an inch and a half vertical and half an inch horizontal. My 30 yards groups seem to vary quite wildly but this has been a break in period for the spring and seal so I’ll pretend to ignore some groups. Plus I’ve tested a lot of pellets and keep going back to some hoping for some magic.

Today I shot 5 shot groups of sorted pellets vs sorted and lubed. The lubed pellets are absolutely shooting better. Shooting was at 20 yards exactly

The lubed pellets went into a .312 hole, I even fired a 6th shot for good measure. The non lubed I shot 2 groups. One at .468 and the other at .625. Didn’t have a single flier out of my 16 shots. I planned on continuing but I lost my pellet probe, about the 4th one in a week.

Here’s the target from yesterday. I only shot 20 yards so next time I’ll extend to 35. I’m curious if the washed and lived pellets will retain accuracy at range. If so then I’ll probably stick with these pellets. Maybe. Target 3 and 6 are the lubed pellets I wish I couldve got more shots at 3 but as I mentioned, I lost my probe if that 6th shot was with the other lubed group (6) it would’ve been right in the middle

Hmmmm. Soooo that smoke smell and power is from dieseling only? Couldn’t be something else? I’m not getting it so much now with the CFR (could still be dieseling but I’m not smelling it. Will shoot through chrony again soon) but my old accu that I never opened up would have that smell and smoke all the time. I’d have wild velocity spreads but accuracy wasn’t effected at the ranges I shot. Wonder what the heck went on with that old gun.

Yup.... must have been the diesling. I chronied at 609 average with the JSB exacts. This is frustrating. guess I’ll have to take out this breech and look. Maybe check the transfer port. Would be nice to find accurate spec sheets for the CFR and ACCU.

Side note: looks like I will need to clean the barrel more regularly when lubing pellets as I do. My accuracy started to diminish at the end. Ran a patch through the barrel and it was black. Only took 4 dry patches to completely clean though.

I tested 5 pellets today even though I know it likes JSB exacts. The winner for precision was HN FTTs unless we ignore my CPL flier. Gamo hunter pellets win the award for craziest group with the start of 3 rows of 2 shots on top of each other. Groups today were at 26 yards.

I think I got this sucker shooting about as fast as I ever will short of increasing the transfer port size.

Now to hone in on accuracy and make a smoother shooter. I replaced some small plastic clips on the cocking arm with some better suited plastic clips which creates a really smooth cocking effort that feels smooth and tight for the entire swing. I removed the internal pieces of the useless “whisper” brake. Today I shot some unsorted and unlubed pellets at 30 yards when we took the dogs out. HN FTTs and JSB exacts. Wish I’d have had some other pellets but oh well, next time. Here’s a pic of my groups from sitting basically Indian style using a shovel as support at a measured 30 yards exactly.

I also need to practice my own shooting. Maybe one day I’ll try FT if I feel I have the knowledge and skill required.
