Loving the EDgun R5 30cal

I have two single shot Eddies, the .22 R3 Long, and the .25 R5 Super Magnum. I've had the R3 for a while now and its very accurate and reliable. I normally shoot the 25.4 grain RD Monsters at about 930 FPS, but it will also shoot the 22.5 grain VK slugs at around 940 FPS (I have some NSAs but haven't tested them yet in this gun).

The R5 SM is going to be my slug gun for 2020. I have tested all of the NSA slugs currently produced, and it likes the 26.8 grain HP DB the best, and shoots them at 1040 FPS. I do plan on reducing the speed to around 990 to 1000 FPS to see if that can improved accuracy a bit, although it is pretty accurate at the higher speed.

I took the gun apart to JB polish the barrel, and lower reg pressure a bit, and after reassembly I keep getting blowback past the breech oring seal. I've been told by a very reliable source that the breech oring on the R5 needs to be installed totally dry, and if lubed the gun will blow back across that sealing area. I haven't had a chance to take the breech block off, clean out the sealing area, and install a new totally dry oring yet. Has anyone had this issue? Seems odd to me, but if it works then odd or not, that's what I'll do... Truthfully I like the double oring on the pellet probe like the R3 better... ;)

All most sold my superlong .30 but was like noooo! So once i different glass im going to use it as a slug only gun only

Ditto.. almost got rid of my .30 long due to neglect. It sat for probably 4-5 months, then one day I took it out to test Dale's 62 grainers, and before I knew it, I was renewing my vows with her 😂

It took a little bit if barrel work to make it as special as it is now. After that, I decided to get a synthetic stock for the rainy season. I put an MOE 7 on it which worked out really well - almost as if they were made from the same composite material..

I do prefer the walnut though as a matter of preference. It's 33 grams lighter, but it's nice having the synthetic with the nasty wet weather here in the PNW. I'm using the Atlas BT17 rail on the walnut, and I used giant T-nuts on both stocks because I'm paranoid about hurting my baby 💪👶

It might not have the power of my external plenum boosted MKII, but like @jwrabbit123 says - it's not real ammo picky, and the 60-66gr slugs still hit pretty damned hard in the low 800's!

Damn that R5 Long dressed all in black looks sexy as hell! I hope Ed decides to do another run of them or come up with a new platform in .30cal.
