Losing the squirrel war ...

2019 = 178

2020 = 148

2021 = 129

2022 = 31 so far and counting

So, I think that I'm winning the war but it takes time! I have a red cedar porch that squirrels would eat plum off the house if I let them, plus they chewed a hole into the attic once. Traps are too slow as they show up 3 or 4 at a time, I'll get them killed off and a couple of days of peace and quiet then a new group moves in. There is not nearly as many around the neighborhood as there used to be, the first year that I started shooting them with a Sheridan Blue Streak I killed over 200 but that was a ways back. Now I keep a better record of the kills.

Shooting squirrels can be fun. But in this situation I recommend: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K6JKVLS

I've had friends who work form home get 20 in 2 days. Depends on how frequently you can remove the dead squirrels from the trap.

A lower-maintenance trap that is otherwise somewhat similar is the Goodnature A18 and A24.

It's about 4 times as expensive as that trap. But it's quite lovely. With the right bait you can leave it alone and it'll kill 10-20 squirrels. They fall out of the trap, the trap automatically resets, and some other animal eats the previous victim. My chickens are starting to enjoy squirrel.

With simpler baits like peanut butter, you might have to re-bait a little more often, especially if you have raccoons that raid your traps.
