Looking to get into the hobby

Howdy,

Just join the community and looking to get into the hobby. Mainly for pest/varmit control around my property here in Texas plus get the family more involved with shooting. Have a cheap ol .177 I use to rid the yard destroying armadillos around my property now. Only prob with that is gotta get close and head shots only. Hoping to find something in the pcp line to give me more reach and ability to go from my back porch. Been watching a lot of videos and now researching this forum to learn more about this hobby. Glad to be here

‘Dillos are tough. Ideally, a .25 cal would be best or a .22 able to deliver heavier pellets like 25.4 gr. I don’t know what your budget is, but I recommend an FX Wildcat Mk3 VP which is less than $1500. Check out the classifieds. Good deals can be found there.
yes sir. Def found that .25 or even up to a .30. Could use .30 for hogs even from my research. I’ve been scouring the classifieds all morning looking. Trying to get to my post requirements to be able to start dming to make a purchase. Lil nervous honestly about sending someone 1000miles away 1k+ so trying to find someone in Texas or surrounding states I could drive to. A little less nervous about there being an issue in person.

Its old, it's discontinued, it's hand pump able. Look for a used benjamin discovery..... or a marauder if you want a magazine and more steam. If you want to spend some money, I have recommendations for that juncture if you'd like lots of power and up to and just past 100 yard capability

kill with intention!Whatever it takes to do so, do it.More power is better.I have Benjamin PCP ,to me the best for the money.all under $450.A Marauder,a Kratos and a Akela bullpup. All can shoot 1/2" groups at 30 yards. You do not have to spend more than that.Plus scope and air suppy.Check them out. I got mine from Airgun Revisions.

Welcome to the best A G N

Best advice i have is do not get in a hurry , over the next week or more lot of info will be offered .
Stan in Kentucky .
EDIT Even if your out in the sticks , look up Air gun laws /ordinances . State /local . county every place has laws .

I'm near Lake Whitney, on 30 acres myself, have a lot of pesting experience, including dillos, and rely heavily on brain shots with airguns on most everything else. Considering the size of their heads, you can extrapolate that to imagine a TINY brain... that typically doesn't stay still more than a second or two when/if approached close enough for a brain shot. That is why I chose to take a chest shot with this AR6 magnum air pistol (18.1 grain .22 pellet at 713 FPS/20.4 FPE).

AR6 armadillo.JPG

To my surprise he didn't make it more than 15 yards after the shot. But that's an anomaly; dillos are tough and tenacious!

To answer your post with a response about what you're actually asking about, "Hoping to find something in the pcp line to give me more reach and ability to go from my back porch", and considering you're at least inferring body shots, I recommend a .30 caliber PCP; for body or (attempted) brain shots on dillos.

BTW, I host monthly airgun competitions on my place the first Saturday of each month that draw shooters from all around Texas (and several other states). Consider this an invitation to those, or just an airgunning get together on my place.

Welcome to the forum.

By the way, my phone number is on that card for a reason. I am an airgun information portal that is not allergic to conversation(s).

Since you mention hogs, I would look at some .30s. An ideal gun would be a good used FX Boss, But they are hard to find. You'll find lots of choices, it's just a matter of preference.....and budget. Bring money, lots of money.

You should also check out AoA (AirgunsofArizona's used section), PyramydAir also...awesome vendors if you can't find or would rather go that route.

I'm gonna be the devil on the shoulder. Do a ton of research before you buy, consider utah airguns along with airguns of Arizona.

I've learned this lesson too many times.

BUY ONCE CRY ONCE. don't do the equivalent of buying a ruger 1022 and spend a grand taking every part off but the receiver with the serial on it.

Welcome to Airgun Nation! Since you are set on a PCP, I suggest researching the .25 Marauder. Great rifle, easy to shoot, easy to fill (only 2900 psi so hand pump friendly) easy to upgrade or repair. Enough stopping power for big raccoons. Affordable. Shoots above it's price tag.

Centerpoint makes a decent scope and will pair well with some BKL rings.

Compressors have gotten very affordable and are portable.

I have bought a few items from Airgun Revisions and have always been very happy with my purchase.

Welcome aboard! If you state your budget (if you have one) it'd help narrow things down. Are you looking for no hassle, straight out of the box accuracy & function or are you a "tinkerer"? Guns such as FX Royale 500 (.25), Daystate Huntsman, Taipan Veteran, FX Wildcat, etc. are pretty much out of box accurate. Again, some parameters from you would help.

Depending on what you want and have to spend? A used FX Dreamline would be a good gun.
That FX is a Lego gun! Can be anything from Tactical to Traditional. Super easy to change calibers.
Can have the air tube or an air tank. Mine is set up with a 700 mm in .30 cal, with a power plenum
and drops large groundhogs at 90+ yards with NSA Slugs.
I'm not an FX Fan Boy but I do like this FX. I'm an Evanix Fan Boy if anything. I have 4 of those!
.22, .25, .357, and a .50 cal.

You have a great source for really good accurate pellet guns in Texas.
Airforceairguns.com
Go to their outlet, .25 Condor.
Accurate and plenty of power.
No worries about scams.

Plus if you decide you need more power, the Condor is the easiest platform to upgrade.

It is single shot and a 25 year old basic, robust design. It does not break and only has 4 orings, all in the Tophat valve. No other rifle has lasted so long.

It just works.
