Looking to buy a good .22 fixed barrel springer for hunting... thoughts?

Hey folks!

I'm looking to purchase a good, solid, air rifle for varmint and small game hunting. I've been shooting a Gamo Swarm Whisper .177 for a bit now and want to advance to a higher level. Something a bit more accurate and can send a .22 down range with consistency and good power.

After lots of looking I've settled on the Diana RWS 460, and it looks like a solid rifle. I know there's lot of other options out there, and I'm open to them. I'm hoping to stay under $400 and obviously get the most reliable rifle out there for the price.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Chris

Good deal on a refurbished 460 in .177 here at only $299 I have the Diana 52 and a 46 they are great guns also although a wee bit heavy.

Also for that kind of money $400 you can get into an entry level PCP with a hand pump. You have a few choices in guns.

We that are already on the dark side would welcome you and your pocketbook. ;^)

Thanks guys! I really appreciate your input. I thought about going PCP, but I know if I get into an entry level PCP, I would be spending a LOT more money down the road growing my arsenal of PCP guns, a bulk tank, compressor etc! I'm the type that gets into my hobbies and spends money.. so I'm hoping to keep it at bay with a springer and good scope.

So far I'm really liking the reviews on the Weihrauch HW97. I'm going to take some time to do more research on it and the Diana 460, and maybe some other models of both brands. Lots on the market to choose from.

Thanks a gain folks!

Chris

I looked closely at the HW97 for a while now. I know they make a great rifle, and one day I'd love to buy a Weihrauch, but I don't have that kind of budget right now.

That being said, after a lot of thought I went ahead and purchased the Diana 460 from PA. I really hope it's a good rifle for me. I shoot a lot (almost daily), so I'm hoping it lives up to the reputation of it's predecessors.

Thanks for the input folks! I appreciate it much

All the best,

MY BAD! MISSED THE "FIXED BARREL" in the heading!! MODS.... please delete my misplaced post!!!

My vote is for the SIG ASP20. I think it's the most overlooked gun out there. I have a Swarm Whisper .22, and find it woefully inaccurate.

I've had the Sig for a bit, put about 700 rounds through, it, and can shoot 10 shot groups at 20yrds, that can be covered with a dime. The synthetic version can be had for around $350.... and I can't image the 97 or 460 could out perform it.

I have a 460 magnum. Only have about 500 pellets through it so far, but it seemed pretty accurate out of the box. A bit heavy, but the trigger is awesome, and it’s seriously powerful. I’m using the iron sights right now, but I’ll be scoping it soon for even more accuracy.
The reasoning behind buying this instead of something like the 46 or hw97 was the magnum power. I want to shoot beyond 30yds, and this gun will do that accurately!

Hand-pumps ruin your Guns by bringing moisture in them. Also, any HW97 or similar rifle is worth its weight in gold.
