Looking for the perfect pellet trap, QUIET

Like you, I previously used a box filled with old clothes which made it quiet for back yard target practice but the box after sometime got heavy and warped, I wanted something that could also be easy to clean and save and recycle the used lead so my search lead me to the Super Target System Ballistic Target Trap. I purchased the 12x12 with 1” ballistic panel off of amazon, I also purchased a 1/2” ballistic panel and glued it to the back traps panel. I shoot my RAW HMx LRT .22 shooting 18gr @ 950fps @ 20yds and it makes a dull thud. The STS is quite expensive, 200 for box and 1” panel but it was well worth the investment to me to be able to shoot incognito in the city and recycle the lead, my RAW is quiet too. The ballistic panel is self healing. The box is rated for .22 rimfire (way over built for Airguns, weighs about 20lbs)), it is also built much more solid than my Do It All rimfire Target trap.

I got the 18X12 model, get a low thump when it's hit, has ballistic foam, rubber mulch and duct seal inside

Will a .177 go through those sheets that STS sells? Working on parting together a nice target box for indoor. Have a nice stainless box I grabbed from work and looking for components.

Like the rubber mulch, but want a solid target face that wont wear out as quick as cardboard or plastic wrap

By themself I put a 22 pellets threw it pretty easy point blank. kinda disappointing in it but the bullet trap will withstand a 22 cal close up

I was looking at one of the 3/8" sheets to use as a cover for my target box. Just don't want the pellet to bounce back or anything. The other option was a poly foam that is used as a target backer.

The key is that the bullet trap has a angled backstop that directs the pellets downward no matter if there's foam in the trap or not

What is the difference between the ballistic foam and the poly foam you linked to on the previous page? By difference I don't mean composition or thickness but rather in performance?

I use 18x24 voting signs as the front of my rubber mulch traps. Works well and easy to repair with duct tape but even when repaired they really bulge out.

The poly foam being described as "semi self healing" on another site is interesting. And at 36x24 I could just cut one in half and have two fronts for my traps.

The ballistic foam is good for steel traps, keeping the pellets from bouncing back.

I have a half sheet left over if you want purchase some of it to try

Is this the 3/8" thick stuff? Is it suitable for the front of a rubber mulch trap? I mainly shoot indoors at sub 12 into a rubber mulch trap. Looking for a stiffer replacement than my corrugated plastic voting signs.

I wrap my pellet trap with landscape fabric to hold everything in place. The fabric is very thin so it doesn't really make much of a sound a pellet goes through it. It is also very cheap. I usually duct tape the fabric to itself, so it can act as a "sleeve" around the pellet trap. I just rotate the sleeve when it gets a bit shot up.

I'll have to try that

Thanks

I ordered some of this stuff to experiment with......

Goldwing did you ever try this stuff? If so, what sort of FPE are you shooting it with and how is it working?

It's not worth the cost, get the Super Target Systems Steel Bullet Trap the price went up $20 since I got one

I'm looking for something large enough to use as a backer for those large poker/battleship game targets. Ideally also something my boys could attach archery targets to.

I may just order a piece and try it.
