What does "tuned" mean? Sorry, been a firearm guy all my life, but am pretty new to airgunning.

"So just what is an air gun tune?” you might ask. Well, the answer is both simple and complex. The simplest answer is that an air gun tune is a procedure performed on an air gun whereby the gun is disassembled and every one of the guns’ important working parts are carefully cleaned, inspected, repaired, modified or upgraded if necessary or desired, then lubricated and reassembled. The goal of a tune usually depends upon the desired results, but the most basic tunes are intended to smooth out the operation of the gun, improve accuracy, improve operational life, and quiet down any spring or action noise as much as possible.

Tuning a vortex 135? Clean it, relube it, shoot it to break it in. As far as the piston power, you can really only reduce the power of it. You can't increase the power of the piston much more than it already is set by the manufacturer. Make sure all your screws stay tight- the barrel pivot in particular. You could fiddle with the trigger assembly a bit- honing some components to smooth out the trigger pull if it feels rough.

Thanks for all the replies. Looking to smooth it out and improve accuracy. Has plenty of power! I read a piece written by BB on PA's web page about him shooting one that produced 50 ftlbs with a tune. So I guess it can achieve more power.

It actually made 38 ftlbs. He was wanting to take it to 50 ftlbs. He was shooting JSB 44.75 gr at 625 fps. Not bad for a springer. If you want to read about it. Get on BB's page on PA's web page and search hatsan 135, click on air cup part 2.
