Looking for Newbie PCP Air Rifle recommendations

Hi,

I am new to airguns. I live in West Point Georgia (about 80 miles from Atlanta). I am thinking about purchasing a pcp air rifle and wanted to get suggestions. Many of the videos I have seen suggest getting the best air rifle you can get in your budget even when starting out. I would like one that would be good for all around shooting (hunting/target/backyard...etc.). I have been scanning the classifieds here but wanted to get peoples opinions before pulling the trigger (pun intended....lol). From videos...etc. I like the FX Wildcat mk1 and mk2 and even the compact and would like to keep it around the $1000,00 for a high end used rifle. I'd like a rifle that shoots very well stock and go from there. I am probably going to have to invest in a compressor (air ventori portable compressor?) as no scuba shops are in my area. The closest air gun clubs/ranges to me would be in Atlanta. Thanks for any opinions..

I have a few FX rifles but not the Wildcat but friends that have them always have good things to say. I would recommend that you check with some of the vendors that happen to be sponsors on this site as they can be a good source for info on what would suite you best. I can’t really recommend one vendor over the other as I’ve never had a problem with any of them . You may want to contact SPAW as they are near GA but in North Florida so it would be easier for any maintenance in future. Price is pretty much the same so you need to consider who can give service that can better meet your needs.

Probably out of your price range unless you can get something used, I highly recommend the Calibrguns and you are relatively close to Georgia Airguns. Give Charlie a call and see if there’s anything he can do for you. As someone who has been there, done that, the top thing on my list is a nearby service place.

I’m in Marietta GA, if you are ever up this way let me know and you can check out my guns, I have 2 Crickets.

FX has a repair/cervice center in NC. Shipping to them should not be a huge hassle, but I prefer the personalized cervice of actually driving the thing in myself.

Check this out! I actually drive 1 hr 20 mins to get there.

i got a wldcat mk1 in 22 and it a great hunting gun and a pleasure to carry and back yard friendly , but Id get an air supply first as well , some guys here go a portble compressor 12v or 110 ,to fill guns not tanks , I have a 230v model as I shoot alot , I do agree go to local fre department maybe they can hook you up with a old scott pack tank and keep it filled for you , maybe you have one close by . good luck ,LOU

PS I also have a cricket both are good but for a 1st gun many sub 500 decient guns as well as with pcp guns we need compressors and tanks and scopes and rings , with a shot gun it is shot gun and a box of shells , but with pcp guns it is expensive up front when starting out , The biggest mistake I ever mae was buy a cheap thing to save money as in end I ended u buying more then 1 or fixing it every time I used it ,

Consider the .22. For back yard, they require less air per shot, carry less energy so less likely to hurt someone, or go through a fence, (though perfectly capable of penetrating 1/2 inch pine boards at 20 yards or more). Carry plenty of knockdown power for small quarry. ammunition is about 10% cheaper than .25. As long as you keep it sub-sonic, very accurate as well.

Well I made my choice:

I'm getting my gun from Georgia Airguns. Charlie is great to deal with and he is only 30 minutes from my house.

Taipan Veteran ,22 shorty

Sightron S-TAC 3-16X42 MOA-3 Reticle scope (this weighs in at 12.9 oz)

Burris signature rings 30mm

Charlie at Georgia Airguns doesn't keep bipods/rails on hand but I'll pick them and he will install it for me. any suggestions on rail and bipod for it?

Great Choice! You will love that setup. When I bought my Cricket Mini from him, I bought a pic rail from Amazon and shipped it directly to him. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003LSKLBQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

I bought the Atlas Bipod from AoA, it is expensive but built like a tank. https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/bipods/atlas-bipod-with-adm-170-s-lever/
