Looking for my first PCP-input appreciated

I, too, like to hike and just throw a PROD in my backpack so I get where you're coming from. If humans and neighbors are a concern, then I'd recommend the PROD even more so than a high end gun (at least to begin with). This way, if you do encounter any trouble, you'll just be losing a PROD and perhaps not a leshiy2. If you're plinking on your own land, there's little they can do to you, although you might want to check you bi-laws. Plenty ways to silence your backstop. FWIW though, I would only bring my guns into a National State Forest or designated WMA during hunting seasons where I live. It is rather risky to bring them into regular parks or forests.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I would definitely only have the airgun with me during squirrel seasons. I have a concealed carry permit and always legally have something on me to deal with worst case scenarios.

For a first hunting PCP I would rather go for a Gamo Urban (best value) or, if cost is no object, an FX Royale. Pistols are nice and I like to hunt with them occasionally, yet hunting simply is not the primary purpose they were designed for.

In addition to being excellent value, the Urban has a lot going for it. High quality build, compact, accurate BSA barrel, not pellet fussy, nice 2 stage trigger, light to carry, very well designed pistol grip stock, easy to hand pump, easy to use mags.

The FX bottle gun is similar in size, and even hold, to the Urban. Of course the shot count, power, efficiency etc are in a different class but so is the price. The gun is also much more fragile than the Urban. The Urban bluing is better than the FX.

Suggest you do an "urban" search on this forum or check the Pyramydair user reviews. Welcome to the PCP community! 🐦

Thanks for the input. I’m new to airguns, but not to small game hunting. Unfortunately, the ones you listed don’t meet my length and weight requirements. Those would be too similar to my Kidd Custom 10/22.
