Looking for a quiet big bore

I know thats an oxymoron, but I am looking for advice on a big bore meaning .30 cal or larger that is the quietest. Now with that being said I know alot of the noise can be tamed down with a moderator and I would like to fit one with Donny Emperor or something similar. Anyway the other part of the gun that I am most focused on is the guns mechanical noises, hammer and valve, etc. Also I have never had a bottle gun and I am wondering if bottle guns suffer from the same ping sound that a tube gun has. And is it possible to quiet them if so?

I have been looking at the airforce guns, fx boss, air arms slayer; basically I am open to any ideas and price ranges.

And is .357 compatible with powder burning 9mm cast bullets?

Your choice in .30 pellet shooter @ sub 3000psi will be quietest where as your slug shooters in larger calibers @ higher psi will be loudest. You have a few factors to consider, one being the the purpose and the amount of necessary power. My Crown .30 is rather quiet. With a good suppressor even my Extreme .308 shooting 250fpe @ 4000psi had a relatively quiet muzzle report but smacking a valve to open a big bore at 4000psi will make some noise. My .457 Texans wearing the RL shroud were also rather quiet for its given energy but then you might consider the length. How quiet do you need to be?

For the .357, generally speaking, the answer is yes. However some are better suited for pellets especially if lower on power, not withstanding actuall bore dimensions and potentially choked barrels as seen in some airgun platforms.

I have a FX Crown in .25. I got the gun for back yard plinking, but although the gun was relatively quiet, it was not quiet enough to not draw undesired attention. I made a moderator using one of DonnyFL's adapters. I would have bought one of his moderators, but he does not export them. I have a machine shop, so making one was the most viable option. My moderator works perfectly. The gun is now very quiet. It is the hammer that makes the most noise and of course the pellet striking a target of any kind is really LOUD. Of course, the larger the pellet, the greater the impact noise will be.

Another observation is the reduction in pellet velocity because of the moderator. Without the moderator the pellet speed was 940 fps. With the moderator the speed is 900 fps consistently and with 100% repeatability. I have no pellet moderator contact whatsoever. I do not understand what causes the speed loss. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I can explain it.

whats was your fps spread before the moderator? Has it affected accuracy moving 40fps slower? Perhaps you were getting a push after barrel exit with the wasted/unused air?

From the factory the Crown shooting the 25.39 grain JSB pellet had a muzzle speed of 940 fps. I could shoot 1" groups all day at 50 yds. After the moderator was installed my muzzle velocity dropped to 900 fps and the point of impact moved down and right 3.5 CM, but still shoots 1" groups at 50 yds. So no, the accuracy of the rifle was not affected. It just shoots in a slightly different place, but consistently and this test is 100% repeatable. I can demonstrate this any time. I just don't know why.Oh, my speed deviation was +/- 4 fps in both cases over several hundred shots. I believe the POI change is due to the extra weight on the end of the barrel. Remember the Crown barrel is not supported anywhere along its length and my moderator weighs 354 grams.
