Refinishing a HW 55. Actually John in Pa has it. Need to get the barrel and receiver reblued professionally. Any direction you can point me in? John had it apart and wants to do the rebluing first. Help!!! Steve

A lifetime of trying to get this right has taught me a lot. Trying to understand what you expect from the finished product, and considering the rifle to be refinished, I think modern hot blueing would meet your needs (not cold blue touch up). But be aware that while your rifle should be an easy one the final finish can only be as good as the buffing step. If the final finish is important to you I suggest you take the parts to be refinished to a known gunsmith and it won’t cost that much to have it done right. It’s almost a lost art.

I shot both gentlemen (above) an email yesterday. Intentionally didn't call as I wanted to create a paper trail if it became necessary. Outlined what I was looking for and hoped for a response. Haven't heard from either yet though that doesn't mean anything in this day and age. People are swamped and sometimes takes a bit. Look at priority mail. :^)

I have used this outfit for many years to do my metal refinishing and don't think you can do better.
I always do the disassembly and just send him the parts to be refinished. He can finish to what ever level you want from basic factory finish to a mirror polished finish.
