Longer barrels is it just me ??

Hello this is my first post in this section. I would like to say I have two FX streamlines. A 22 and a 25 cal. I am finding that a longer barrel isn’t necessarily my friend when it comes to accuracy. At least I really think this is the case. I mainly shoot both off a bench. I find my 22 is much easier to consistently shoot penny size groups at 50 than my 25. I have shot many penny size groups out of the 25 so I know the gun is plenty capable but I can’t do it nearly as consistent. I can only figure it has to do with the longer barrel and more power in each shot of the 25 ?? The 25 even though benched is actually quite hold sensitive. It seems to want more love (held a bit more firmly) than the 22 requires. Does anyone else experience this ?

Steve from aeac says the same thing. Longer barrel means the projectile is in it for longer, and while this helps in the power department, it also helps any outside sources of movement to effect the projectiles path as it exits.
That's why the p17 is so accurate but not the most ppwerful?🤔🧐 I thought a longer barrel you'd be more accurate...didn't think about outside forces. 🤔 obviously more power in longer barrel, but only to an extent right? So I wonder how SHORT a barrel can be and still be ACCURATE aaaannndddd powerful😳😅🤟

Well, my crown has a 380 barrel in 22. Is shooting 18gn jsb’s at 900fps on power wheel 8 and reg at 145bar. It’s got plenty more in it.

My dreamline with 300 barrel in 22 is shooting crossman hp at 880 with the internal hammer adjuster wound right down. So it also has plenty more umph. I much prefer shorter barrel guns purely for their ease of carry, but the extra accuracy at their power levels is an extra plus.

For a long time I've said a good Barrel is an accurate barrel. Length does play a role but only in adequate spin and projectile to rifling engagement. But this can be optimized at almost any barrel length. You can find videos of one old time gun pro making crack shots at 200+ yards with a snub nose revolver. Guy was no fake or joke either, wish I coukd recall his name. He was also the fastest shooter alive at one point in time, maybe still is.

Another big factor for airguns is air volume. A high powered short barrel coukd potentially have a lot of turbulence. But I do have a 9" 25 cal pistol that will stack jsb pellets at 30 yards, and it outputs a whopping 48fpe

Should also say, the most accurate I've been able to shoot was with a very finely tuned 700mm fx crown. It was on a table and bags, and I was physically holding it down as well. And with a 24x scope. Realistically, the 380mm should be more accurate in normal hunting or free-hand scenarios for the reasons mentioned and some others.

cant rule anything out .. at best the long barrel short barrel argument, in airguns, is pseudo-science .. i think it probably comes down to the sum total of individual conditions in a particular gun and usage on which is best, along with actual ideal physical perfection of an individual barrel and suitability to a particular projectile .. and i wouldnt overlook the effect on sound and feel of a gun, the physiological effects of it .. alot in life, competition, how sharp you are etc, is psychological .. maybe one of the biggest factors in performance actually lol .. if its 'badas' to you, chances are youre better with it ..
